Someone in Chicago is bad at math

Rats reach sexual maturity after nine weeks, meaning that a population can swell from two rats to around 1,250 in one year, with the potential to grow exponentially.

Unless there are currently two rats in Chicago confined to a city block they are going to need a hell of a lot more cats.

Not to be outdone by Chicago, Houston is trialing a "big cat" rat reduction program.

We will finally find out if a single 1,000lbs cat is more effective at ratting than 1,000 one pound cats!

So this non profit will track the cats.

Will they all be wearing little radio collars?

But will they parachute them in for safety's sake?

This is just another "feel good" program that will end up having detrimental effects on everything but the rats (which those of us with working brain cells have foreseen).

I know the rats around my building aren't too afraid of anything, and range between the size of kittens and full grown tabby.
I suppose they had to admit in the article the cats weren't going to eat the rats but they hoped their scent scared them away so in a few years when counts of migratory birds have dropped it's already been put out that the cats would likely eat things other than rats.

Maybe it will help boost the coyote population and then they will eventually cut down the rats..... but like most things emotional decisions bring about, I expect this to fail in amazing fashion.

Just when I go and think Chicago can't get any dumber they go and do this. What a stupid solution.

It's not about the rats. They are trying to figure out something to do with all of the feral cats in the pound besides euthanizing them.

Just for the record, Chicago is known for their urban coyotes. They are probably the most researched coyotes in the US.

If the coyotes aren't controlling the rats, then why do they think the cats will do any better before they are eaten themselves?

NO AMNESTY!

in order for democrats, liberals, progressives et al to continue their illogical belief systems they have to pretend not to know a lot of things; by pretending "not to know" there is no guilt, no actual connection to conscience. Denial of truth allows easier trespass.

So they are trying to help out these poor starving coyotes? Makes sense. They probably needed another food source.

This is one of the worst damn ideas I've ever seen. It makes no sense whatsoever and will not work for rats at all. It will decimate the urban reptile and bird populations there though.

It might also works for shrews and mice, bit cats don't kill very many rats and rats don't give a shot of cats are around or not.

Hopefully the urban coyotes go to work on this stupid cat plan and get a few good meals outof them before they permanently **** up small animal urban populations.
