My bride saw this, and commented "this is so you, and it's how your Dad was..".
I thanked her for the compliment.

My sister in law was telling me and the wife the other day she already knows what to get her fiance for his birthday coming up, they were walking through some store and he saw a couple of pocket knives and remarked how good they looked but he didnt want to spend the money at the time. So she's getting him one since he doesnt have a single pocketknife to his name supposedly. I was like "how does a guy live to be 25 years old and not have a single knife???"

Probably because it won't fit in his skinny jeans pocket with the hairbands for his man bun.

My Grandfather always told me "a gentleman always carries a handkerchief and a pocket knife." I always follow his advice about the knife unless I'm on a plane. Handkerchiefs, however, are nasty.

I think handkerchiefs are preferable to sneezing in the sleeve of your shirt. You can change them out daily if necessary. I always carry one, but seldom use it.

I always have a pocketknife. Would not be caught without it unless flying.

The handkerchief is not for you, dummy.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

The last two lady friends I met at concerts were because someone split some beer and I had a handkerchief to help them. It worked out.

I had to turn one in at the gate at Wrigley Field. Forgot I had it in my pocket, but fortunately it was a typical Gerber that wasn't sentimental. I told the gate person to keep it sharp when she took it home. I don't think she understood the joke.

Through life, both my kids have asked at various times "Dad, can I use your pocket knife?" knowing I have one on me most all the time.

I bought two pocket knives that are the same style but have different color handles. Gave one to my dad and kept the other. Now when we are both dead and gone, they will pass to my boys so one can have granddad's knife and one can have dad's knife. They aren't super extraordinary but they will be keepsakes for my kids.

I usually carry this knife around. Quite fun to open and close it during periods of boredom at the office.

A person should always have a pocket knife when they're not legally prohibited from doing so.

Once I moved away from Texas I was really surprised at how few people carry a pocket knife.

Also I'm pro handkerchief and carry one regularly

I know what it is for, but thanks for the insult. I have seen plenty people blow their nose in their handkerchief and then put is back in their pocket. The custom of the handkerchief was started before paper tissues and napkins were readily available.

This is not an attempt to derail. Please continue the praise of the pocket knife.

I've been carrying on of these Old Timers for about 30 years. I think dad gave it to me when I was 12-14. It's been washed dozens of times. I use it daily.

A friend of mine gave me one of those as a gift in about 1985. I carried it for about 25 years until the "lock" on the blade got so loose it became a safety hazard. It now occupies a place of honor in my sock drawer because I can't thinking of parting with it.

My Dad's similar Old Timer had the main blade about one-third gone, due to how long he had it, and how much it was sharpened.

My Grandmother taught me that it was better to buy a good knife once than a cheap knife over and over. To that end, I've always been partial to Oneida, especially as an everyday carry. I've been using the Lido series for a while and have been pretty happy with it. Good weight, nice hand feel, seems almost European, which matters to me, it might not to you I guess, but to each his own.

I found this in my grandfather's golf bag after he died in 1992 and have carried it every since.

Kershaw Blur here too. I'm on my 3rd one in about 10 years. One went to TSA. One got left on the boat fender when doing roadside bearing replacement and was run over by 100 trucks before I recalled where I last had it and went back. The most recent one has stuck with me for a while. I hate going to the courthouse, b/c I have to remove it from my pocket and leave it in the truck with some other items.

Finally had to replace the case I carried every day for years. Broke the tip off the blade being a dumbass and impatient. It went in the bedside table drawer. Here's the replacement.

I carry a Kershaw Leek, Ken Onion, black.

My father, had an Eye Brand pocket knife that Heaven and Earth would have been moved before he left the house without it. I have it, and considered carrying it in his honor and memory, however it is a bit large as a pocket knife for me to carry, and I would go without flying or getting into a venue if I forgot and left it in my pocket before I'd part with it.

I have a bunch of family pocket knives from his dad and his too, and I am pretty sure his in turn. Generations of them. It is amazing how they'd sharpen them down to a toothpick profile before they'd put them away in case they needed them again, only to use the next one till it looked the same.

We seem to be a generation of people, me included, that will buy something when we already have another that does what the new one will. I fear, we are looking at times ahead that we will look upon these times in which we live now, as the "boon" in our lives, and we too will find necessity in sharpening the tools we use to the point they are barely useable, replacing it if we can, and keeping the remnants in case we need them again. Not just knives, but lots of things. I try to impress the importance of taking care of things to my kids for times like the ones I fear could be coming.

I always had some kind of handmedown Old Timer as a kid. One of them had a sheepsfoot blade that was only about an eight of an inch wide due to yeara of use and sharpening. As a young man, I used to carry a little SOG. I even burried it in a large planter outside of an airport and retreived it 4 days later. I had approached TSA and realized I forgot it was in my pocket. That knife went missing one day, and I am certain it is in my previous house somewhere to this day. Now I carry a Gerber mini paraframe that was given to me by my sons on fathers day.

A friend's dad also buried his at Love Field. Another friend's dad put his in his steel toe boot and sent it through the scanner. I don't recommend the latter, though I have done it at Six Flags and Ranger's games.

I usually carry my papaw Curt's pocket knife. It was the one he carried the day my momma married my dad. One day it will go to my oldest son. I also have a couple of nice case pocketknives for my 2 sons my oldest currently carries a blister pack Gerber. When he turns 16 I'll give him the case for his birthday and he will get papaw Curts when he graduates from college.

I have similar set up fit my youngest son.
