Sometimes people just want to be left alone. Doesn't have to be sinister. Especially if she was an experienced hiker or backpacker.

Hasn't everyone had a moment when you thought about just heading into the woods for a while? Just to get away from reality?

I will say though, as a taxpayer, it seems like a waste of resources looking for people who don't want to be found.

If you've been to the gym and seen ladies that stay fit, they can keep a rather youthful frame well into their 40's. Some even longer.

Same with men, to be fair. It just takes making a plan and sticking to it, and staying active.

I met one of my coworkers earlier this year.

I guessed that she was 25-27.

I was shocked that she was 40. I guess being a fashion model for a decade or so in NY helps.

The pic above is definitely in the 38 range. I am still sticking with my original statement. I think it was an old Facebook pic or something that the family gave to the media.

So file a back country permit and go hiking for 12 days. Happens all the time. Intentionally missing a pick up and hiking into a maze of slot canyons where hikers as recently as this year have died from flash flood incidents is not the way to do that.

Saw the story on the news this morning. She apparently lost her job as a nanny a little while back and has been traveling the US visiting National Parks but was very familiar with Zion. Hopefully just a mistake but the silence on her condition leads me to believe she is hopefully getting the care she needs.

The mental health piece just fits too easily here, hopefully I am wrong though

The pic with the shades and forearm tatt is..well..hot...and she could easily be 38. I know one that looks a lot like her that is north of 40 now.

This story though could easily be molded into a romance novel......I'm just sayin....

Statement released by her daughter says the lady got a head injury just after entering the park and she laid in a river bed the whole time she was there. Other visitors found her there, severely dehydrated.


Lady who looks younger than 38 injures head, gets lost then gets found

I am usually just a take their word for it kind of person on stuff like this and am glad she's ok, but it still seems strange.
First, no phone? If she is an avid hiker, that's hiking 101 - you get cell service almost anywhere on federal lands now. I was in the BFE back country of the GW National Forest the other day and had two bars, let alone a day hike from the valley at zion.
If she started from the grotto, you would have to make an effort to find a place that no one would see you for 12 days.
12 days with no food presumably, which is doable with adequate water, but apparently she didn't have that if she is severely dehydrated.
Temperatures ranged from 40 to 90 and she survived that exposure for two weeks with likely very limited Clothing supplies on a day trip.

Maybe I'll be proven wrong and am fine if I am. But it still seems weird. But again, the important thing is she's ok.
