Anyone seen this bird on or around campus?

It has white feathers.

While it's in flight the tail feathers move when landing and or taking off.

Growing up in the 60's and 70's, scissor tails were omnipresent. Haven't seen one for at least 20 years. I know someone on the OB can tell me why.

Scissor tails are still ubiquitous in the Brown/Coleman County area. We have some around BCS too. What part of the state are you located?

Houston.

I just remember seeing them around campus when I was there years ago.

A friend of mine was sure it was a rare breed mockingbird, but I know what a mocking bird looks like.

Strange looking birds that have long tails that move some kind of curiously in flight.

Saw them all the time growing up in Lampasas. Grandpa would tell me that's how we knew spring had arrived.

I have several thousand in New Braunfels I'd be willing to give you.

Those turds love to wait until the dove start flying and come out and hover around so that each time you scan the field, you have to stop just for a second when you see them.

Grew up part time in Tyler and they were in every field. A constant. Seen them plenty in various dove fields and yes they are a pain hunting. Never seen one in my burbs. I think they prefer hunting over fields.

See them all the time at my house. But I have a lot of space around my house for them. Leander.

Honestly kind of taken aback that a grown Texan wouldn't recognize/know a scissortail.

We have them all over here in N Ft Worth. Love watching them adjust in flight chasing bugs. Those tail feathers work wonders.

Still have a ton in north Texas. Most of them have a beautiful cantaloupe colored belly....inside of a cantaloupe.

A grown Texas Aggie OB person should know a scissortail IMO. Relatively common, ranges over virtually the whole state & is about as recognizable as they come. I could see maybe some far east or west Texas people might never have seen one though.
