The best thing How Diffie related was that girl in the sundress in one of his videos. 'Texas sized heartache' I think. Or maybe '3rd rock from the sun', I don't remember it's been 25 years.

Loved Joe Diffie since I was a kid. We considered playing Prop me up by the Jukebox at my Pop's funeral. I cried when I came on XM leaving the cemetery.
He put on a good show. I went to a concert that was him, someone I don't remember and Mark Chesnutt.

Joe Diffie was no different than just about every other country artist of his day. Tim McGraw, Sawyer Brown, Daryle Singletary, Aaron Tipping, Diamond Rio, etc, etc. all sides of the same coin. It was all not great but it's 10 times better than today's crap. Not sure why you're obsessed with him in particular.

I don't get why country music fans like to find specific artists as the reason for the country music problem. This isn't an artist problem. Its a Nashville, music business problem.
The Ken Burns country music documentary does a decent job of touching on this problem, and the birth of Americana as the side child of folks clamoring for something real, something other than Top 40 country.
