Anybody ever duck hunted around Maryland or Maine? Considering a trip this year to potentially hunt Chesapeake Bay and maybe even further up the coast. Would like to get into some canvasbacks, old squaw, eiders, scoter, and maybe brant. Know nothing about guides/outfitters in that region. TIA.

I had a fried do a similar trip and used east coast guide service and enjoyed the experience, including a long weekend in Boston to see the sights.

Buddy of mine with this outfit couple years back and had a blast. He said the water was little rough but they shot alot of birds.

This guy has the best instagram...now granted sea ducks die a lot harder than most puddle ducks, but seems like most of his clients suck at shooting. Kind of refreshing to get a real look at an actual duck hunt rather than most of the over-produced, head to toe sitka stuff you see everywhere else.

That guy does have some great vids and kills a ton of birds, but it seems like about 99% of what he kills are scoters. Really want to try to get into some eiders, canvasbacks, old squaw, and maybe some goldeneye.

A buddy of mine at the office is originally from Virginia and goes back to hunt the Eastern Shore and Tangiers Island on occasion. He uses a guide for Tangiers and I'll find out who.

Careful where you go and the gun / ammo laws. Wasn't it an OB poster who went duck hunting somewhere in New England and ran out of ammo. Went to the local gun store to buy more shotgun shells and couldn't because he didn't have the ammo purchasing card issued by the state?

Friends from Maine say Merrymeeting Lake is the place to go up there. It looks like there are several guides that work that area. Reddog guides has good reviews and their prices look cheap compared to what I've seen on the Gulf Coast ( no oil money up there I guess). Southwest flys into Portland surprisingly cheap outside of the Summer months.

Ocean State Outfitters looks like a pretty solid option too.

The HP Outdoors Podcast Facebook page has a ton of Maryland and Maine guys on it. Sounds like the Atlantic Flyway really cut back it's numbered this last year and the hunting hasn't been great. That said you can get a lot of info on there.
