Our lone habanero is about the same size but no fruit as of yet. Lots of flowers so hopefully soon I will start to see some set.

The Thai red chili plants (3 of them) are pushing 46 inches in height and have lots of peppers, just need them to get bigger and turn red so I can make Thai curries, tom kha gai, tom yum goong and larb gai... the anticipation is killing me.

Zucchini and yellow squash failed miserably, big plants but no female flowers. My brother said his FIL had the same issue this year and that it was the first time this happened to him. No insect issues and only male flowers so I am at a loss as to what went wrong. Will be pulling all but two or three plants and getting some okra in the empty spots.

And that's just a fraction of what I have pulled the last week. Last year was kinda crappy with my tomatoes but this year has been awesome. Fixing to try my hand at canning salsa.

Squash just from today. It's just ramping up. I'll have soo much to give away. I have like 30-40 plants.

Do you have a truck and live near a highway?

Yes, I have a truck. Will probably take to the local farmers market in the small town I live in.

One of my stepsons really liked stuffed squash blossoms. I'd never heard of it. The flowers are stuffed with cream cheese and lightly battered and fried.

Everything is growing really quickly since I fertilized through the irrigation system.

In the past week or so, my tomato plants have started to die. Probably a disease but I can't figure it out. Help please!

1. Do you water them with a sprinkler (overhead)?
2. Do you fertilizer them?

1. Basic lawn sprinkler
2. I used Miracle Gro last week...probably first time I've fertilized in six weeks or so.

1. If your soil lacks nutrients, they need nutrients more often than that. An 8-8-8 or 10-10-10 is a good all around fertilizer.
2. You want to water them at the base. When their leaves get wet, it can lead to fungus.

From what I can tell by the leaf spotting and the apparent soil composition it appears that your tomato plants died of loneliness. Come on. It appears you are sitting on acres of property. If you plant more than two tomato plants you can just claim later that you didn't really like tomatoes anyway and just planted them for fun while showing off your okra and cucumbers. My tomatoes are shot too but right next door I have some cucumber plants that get angry when I pick one and throw off about 10 more. I now know why pickles were invented.

If you got over 30 plants, just wait. You're not going to be able to give all that away.

Well, I'm a teacher, so I'm just giving it to all the teachers at my school. I really just like the growing aspect of it and working outdoors.

I used to have a career field where I worked outdoors about half the time, and I miss that a lot, so this is how I recapture some of that.

I hear ya. It's definitely my escape from the normal routine.

Could be spider mites.

Pick smaller and make them into pickles.

Most of those are zucchini. I only had a couple of cucumbers.

Do my squash make my butt look big? Missing one day picking squash cause it rained sucks!

I've got bugs, literally, probing my tomatoes and causing them to rot. I see some stink bugs but also leaf-footed bugs. They do this to the peppers as well. Anyone have a solution that is somewhat targeted to kill them?

Edit: what I'm seeing is leaf-footed bugs not assassin.

I will say I am done with tomotoes. My wife has canned about 120 pints

Shoot...west of San Antonio...ain't nothin growing in the garden with daytime highs over 103....lol. Things are just surviving. Still harvesting a lot of everything but it's not all that happy...


Except okra. That stuff seems to grow like nobodies business this time of year.

That was me. Mine are setting still as well. It helps to not have had any days over 100 yet.

I have put up about 20 pints of salsa maybe. I just froze about 1.5 gallons yesterday because they were starting to go back. I picked another 5+ lbs after work off of four plants. I have several more plants to clean off this evening.

My Ring of Fire peppers are starting to all ripen so it's time to start fermenting. I'm going to convert a small chest freezer into a temperature controlled fermenting box to keep all the aromatic jars out of the kitchen.

How do you guys feel about ants in/around the garden? Need to get rid of them?

I've been harvesting basil and spinach from my garden the past month but just finally harvested my first okra, gunna fry it up tonight to see how it goes !
