Is anyone here an expert on identifying bushes? You heard me.

My wife says these are cool, and we need some for our front flower bed. Any ideas as to what these are?

we have those....I had hoped to keep them at a medium size....3-4 feet tall....seems like they don't want to flower at that height...they want to be tall and they need A LOT of sun

There are dwarf varieties. I live in Midland and planted these as a hedge. I can't remember which variety of sage it is, but it only grows to 3-4' tall.

Damn birds are trying to eat my blackberries.

So, now I have scarecrows protecting the garden. And spinners!

Anyone have any ideas what's going on with these tomatoes? One bush only. Maybe half a dozen total. All on one side and the spot is facing the same general direction.

Stinkbugs make yellow spots that soften/rot too. There's usually quite a few more spots though.

Treatment for squash bugs? So far, I've only seen that liquid Seven may work. All the other organic methods are kind of pointless (finding individual bugs; killing them, taking the eggs off of leaves, etc. Ain't got no time for that). Just beong proactive.

Anyone have anything that does work and isn't harmful?

How can you just quit squash? It's tasty and prolific. So far it's been the star of my garden. Harvested some tomatoes, onions and carrots, but my squash is delivering almost every day. Ready for my peppers and okra to get going.

So far, I've only seen a few bugs, and I've killed them. I've done a better job weeding them, and I've run irrigation, though which I run my fertilizer, which should keep them healthier.

I feel your pain. I have had the same issue for 4 years. And this year everyday from 4-7 or longer i am in my garden and I killed two of those flying squash borers and I had squash and zuchinni this year

I give most of my stuff away because I plant so much dont ask me why my whole family always ask me the same thing

Last note. Plant first of march if you can and keep covered if freeze. The dreaded squash borer may still come but they normally do t ahow up until late april mid may

I planted 3000 square feet. No way my wife and I can eat all that. I call friends and ask them what they want. I just love growing and giving it away - except for blackberries. Those are for cobblers.

Y'all were quick on the draw with the last Plant ID, but here's a new one that is actually currently in my garden. Back story though, I found this growing in darkness in my compost pile, so I believe it to be some kind of fruit, but the leaves don't match anything on the googles. I moved it to the garden and it's growing "like a weed."

well hell, that was quick. My dad has been throwing his seeds and shells in my compost pile when he comes to visits. I guess he didn't eat one...plus it was growing around some fruits I tossed, so I assumed that was it.

Anyone have any experience with topping indeterminate tomatoes? If I cut the tops off to stop their upward growth, will they continue filling out and flowering?

I've got a shade cover over my garden, and my tomatoes are now about 6' tall and rubbing against the shade cover. My cucumbers are at the same level. Trying to decide what I should do about it.

Those are leafhoppers. They are a pain. Google says insecticidal soap should work. They were heavy on a few of my sunflowers to the point of being able to see the sap dripping down like a light rain. I sprayed them with canned flying insect poison. Probably not ideal because this is over my garden but I didn't have anything else handy. They can also fly around so they're hard to control with less potent solutions.

Is this a gardening humble brag? My indeterminate tomatoes are so massive what can I do to manage their enormous size? I would vote for letting them outgrow the shade cover. They are going to eventually succumb to the sun and heat you may as well maximize the growth while the going is good. You could also use the cucumbers as shade cover depending on proximity and cucumber growth. My cucumbers are choking out a couple of tomato plants and I'm worried about too much cover.

Will they be okay rubbing against the top? That's what I'm concerned with. I guess they'll just start bending and growing along it?

First off your garden looks great! I'm no expert but my novice advice would be the following.

It looks like they have reached the top of the trellis. My guess is that they will just bend and start growing down. as long as they don't top themselves they will just grow back toward the ground. Tomato plants will tend to start dying off from the bottom up so if you inhibit growth from the top you will be putting them in a squeeze from the top and bottom.

Thanks! It's my first garden, and it's definitely packed full. In the bottom of the pic you're mainly seeing my different varieties of okra. There some eggplant in the bottom left and then some peppers and squash that are out of camera.

I'll just let them continue growing and see what happens. I feel the shade is needed being out here In the dry hot climate.

They will be fine rubbing the top and will just bend over more than likely. If you prune them back they should continue growing new shoots. Look to see how low you may have a sucker growing. You could probably prune back and make a couple suckers your main branches. All my indeterminates are now around 8' tall and flopping over the cages.

Also I wanted to add that I picked the largest tomato I've ever grown yesterday then proceeded to drop it on the concrete walking back to the house. I'm going to still try and get it to ripen more and see if I can salvage it. The big tomatoes are now starting to split after being watered so I'm picking early.

Just wanted to say thanks for the help regarding my post on the last page. I've started fertilizing more regularly and the tomatoes have really come back to life. Do y'all typically plant tomatoes in the summer for a fall crop, and if so, any varieties in particular?
zooguy96
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I never planted tomatoes in Texas, but I think you can do two crops of them: One in the spring, and one in the fall. I live in East Tennessee, so I am more restricted to just one crop, although I may be able to get two out.

Once your plants start fruiting, you'll want to lay off of the fertilizer as much, because if you don't, your tomatoes will stay green and never ripen.

No clue. It's a little plant, so I can't tell if it's a tree or just a plant. My app said persimmon, but I don't think it's that.
