I have the exact same problem with my two beefsteak tomato plants. Are you sure this is a disease and not a nutrient/moisture imbalance? I really don't know, trying to figure out myself. Plants are still blooming, but the new growth is all curled/twisted

Cant answer the question but any time that happens on young growth, I just hit it with some sevin dust and call it good. Long time til any harvest.

Four of mine I could consider a nutrient or soil issue. I've never put tomatoes in that bed but the okra i put there last year grew fantastic. This one is in a 30+ gal tub with good soil. I think it's a virus from aphid transfer but none of the photos are exactly what I'm seeing. The danger of leaving the damaged plants in place is that the virus could continue to be transferred to the rest of the garden. I've got nine tomatoes planted but no more backups. The only place I know that sells the funky heirlooms in North Texas is Redenta's in Dallas. I don't see myself driving the hour or so just for that in our current environment.

I've had very slow/stunted growth every time I build a new bed and fill it with the bulk soil/compost mix. The compost at those places is not usually aged long enough so the high nitrogen content can stunt the growth on small seedlings. Usually after a month of rain/waterings they'll pick up and start putting on size. I was worried last year on the okra. They stayed seedling size for a long time. Maybe four weeks before they started going strong.

I got free composted horse manure from a local horse farm. They loaded it for me (that cost $5) for a cubic yard. It worked well in my soil; I didn't mix it in with the soil my blackberries are in (just put some on top), but they have already begun to show much more growth since I put the compost on it.

Yeah, definitely concerns me. The beefsteaks are generic tomatoes I got from my dad, since he had extras, and not necessarily hard to locate. I have 8 other tomatoes planted that are varieties I wouldn't find at a local nursery and I grew from seed. Definitely don't want them to be affected if it is a disease.

If it's disease from an aphid, would you notice an infestation, or not necessarily? When I think of aphids I think of large clusters of the things. I've never noticed any on my tomatoes, but obviously if they're landing and then flying off I'm probably not going to catch them.

Craigslist, dude. I found several places that were giving it away for free. Course, I do live in rural East Tennessee.

Just watch some compost and mulch/bedding material. Several of the pasture herbicides out there now are extremely persistent and are death on many broadleaves. Treated grass that is hayed and fed to animals will be excreted and urinated upon. There may still be enough residue from some herbicides that can be exhibited as hormone herbicide damage. Just know the source of your bedding material.
I have seen Grazon P+D treated hay that was composted and put in a tomato garden contaminate the soil for at least 2 years.

First pests in my tomatoes. We had rain in Houston for a couple days. Noticed some tiny little worms eating some leaves on a couple plants today. Cut those off and sprayed everything with Spinosad. The war has begun.

I noticed the ants first. Then i checked under leaves. Usually this time of year I'm outside every morning inspecting things with my coffee. This year we had a little girl so I'm lucky I got everything in the ground with what else I've got going on.

Edit: The aphids were found on peppers where they like to feed under the leaves. I don't think they hang around on the tomatoes.

These are what my tomatoes look like. Wondering if I should pull them up? The new stem growth is all curling under, and leaves seem to be smaller/wrinkly? Ignore the Sevin dust on them.

It could be a virus but if you hit it too heavy with miracle grow fertilizer it may have a hard impact on them. I've been watering heavy on the stronger plant that I have this issue. I generally only use mild fertilizers like fish or seaweed to avoid any over application so I know that's not the cause on my plants.

Same. I will say the issue seemed to pop up right after I first fertilized. They had been planted a couple weeks. I used the Happy Frog 5-7-3 organic fertilizer, so I really don't think it's the fertilizer that did it. I've planted other vegetables, and mixed the fertilizer into the soil while planting and seen no issues.

That is an amazing deal. Composted manure is $5 for a tiny bag at Home Depot. I want to buy it but it's hard to reconcile buying a bag of **** for so much money.

That's because Home Depot gets their manure from Washington D.C. It's VERY expensive.

Where does everyone live that's harvesting now? I started seeds in January and transplanted in March.

I only put 2 seed potatoes in each red tub, I've tried it with 3-4 seeds per tub but I would just end up with a bunch of really small ping pong ball size potatoes.
I put 3 inches of soil at the bottom of the tub, then the seed potato then cover with 3 more inches of soil. As the potato sprouts, keep adding soil until i have about 12-14 inches deep of soil total. I usually end up with 6-8 good potatoes to harvest per plant.

I'm just now planting most stuff. Won't be harvesting a couple months still. My two beefsteak tomatoes are ahead of schedule just because my dad bought them in Houston area, had extras, so I took them. But otherwise, I'm just now able to plant. Actually may have planted some stuff too early, as it's looking like we have a slight chance of catching a freeze on Sunday night. Will have to cover the garden and fruit trees.

Thanks. I have only ever helped my Aunt and Uncle with potatoes on a 1/2 acre garden. They planted 2-3 rows of potatoes. Thanks for clarifying.

What does everyone recommend for indoor lighting for seeds and/or herbs?

I just used an aquarium light (one of the long ones), or you could just use a UV bulb.

I have two 4' LED shop lights mounted to a wire rack system on casters. I also found that heat pads were just as important for germination success and strong seedlings. The lights are on a cheap pin timer and the heat mats are on 24 hours.
