Lost my grandfather yesterday. He Lived 88 years, all of it in SE Texas. Descendant of German and Czech immigrants who still often spoke with his verbs before his nouns and pronounced "W" like "V". Korean War vet. Farmed until the 50's droughts sent him to the city. With an 8th grade education and swinging a hammer, raised six kids including my mother, put two of my uncles through A&M and one through Rice (with some help of course).
I'm not sure he ever left the state of Texas after getting back from the Army. Good husband, father, and grandfather. Loved tending his garden, smoking bbq, and loved playing some 42 while listening to the old polkas and waltzes. A simple but full and worthy life. He will be missed.
