I heard from one of my work connections on FB that his brother in law, Michael Soltis, was mauled and killed by a brown bear while on a hike near his home in Alaska.

I don't know any more details about the attack than what's in that link, but still a very sad story. Soltis leaves behind his fiancee, who is currently carrying their child. If any OBers feel compelled to support his fiance and soon-to-be-child, it can be done at the GoFund me page linked below.

A powerful reminder to always maintain situational awareness in the outdoors. Can never be too careful.

Justf finished our 31st annual Brown Boys fishing re*union at Pt.Mansfield. One of my wifes nephews and his son came in from Alaska Thursday and told the story of one of his wifes relatives was missing . They went to look for him the next day.His girlfriend who was pregnant and a friend searched for him and he was rmauled by the bear when the body was discovered. The nephews son who came to the re-union lives about a mile down stream on the opposite side of the river where this occured.

When I got back to SPI tonight got on TexAgs to check the outdoor board and here was the story.
