I'm coming home.

My family has been in the suburban Washington D.C. area for close to 5 years. I moved the family up here to pursue the 'dream job.'. Northern Virginia, and the surrounding parts of West Virginia and southern Pennsylvania are really beautiful areas, but something has been missing. Recently the dream job has turned into a nightmare, but the positive effect is that it has brought clarity.

I badly miss spending time with friends and family; chasing dove and watching the sun set in central and west Texas; spending time out at the deer lease in the Hill Country; drinking beer and taking in Texas country music at Gruene Hall; attending Aggie football games; playing 42 and drinking Shiner beer until dawn; watching after the graves of family and friends.

I will tell you this: at some point you realize that the money ain't worth it. If you are in school or recently out, take a chance and take that job in New York, Europe, Hong Kong. Get out and experience the world. But once you have been around, sooner or later Sweet Mother Texas will call you home again.

I am blessed to be coming come. So this fall, I will see you on the lake. Or having BBQ in Llano or Lockhart or Taylor. Or at Kyle Field. Or catching reds down on the coast. Flushing some quail in south Texas; teaching my daughter about firearms and bows.

The wife and I pre babies traveled your path. Moved to CA for three years, had first of three, job went south and moved back in 92. Not for one second have I regretted that decision.

Welcome home.

I'll probably never move back. East Tenn and cooler weather is too nice.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

I'm in dc right now as well, I feel your pain. Texas is a million times better. Lived on the west and east coast and Texas is just better. It's hot is the only damn problem but the mild winters and everything else totally makes up for it. I'm working on getting back home myself to south Texas. Hopefully I'll
Be joining you soon!

There's a lot I miss about living in Texas and I wish I could visit much more often. However, I'm less than an hour's drive to my elk hunting camp site and have millions of acres of public land all around me.

It has broken 80 degrees about ten times so far this spring! That's nice, too!

PM me when you get back. Glad to welcome you home and catch a dove hunt, burger, or Aggie football game.

I'm in State College, PA to drop my son off at college tomorrow. It was in the 60's here all day. A week ago we were at the ranch in South Texas with temps over 100, I can't speak for winters up here but it's going to be hard to go back home to Texas early next week.

Good for OP. Cool that you took a chance moving away.

I've been in Denver for 8.5 years and can't imagine not living here. If I had to leave, the only place that comes close for me is San Diego. Texas is just too hot and flat for me.

Sheesh my family left there in the early 1800's, they knew Texas was their destination. Tennessee Colony to be exact. I am berry happy they made the move.

Come back to Texas
It's just not the same since you went away
Before you lose your accent
And forget all about the Lone Star State
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
And I've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sucks north of here anyway

Welcome home! I moved away from Texas many years ago. Was blessed that my job brought me back a year later. I will never leave my home state again. West Texas is my home, 100+ degree days, wind, dust, thorns, rattlers and all.

This is a great thread. I can't imagine not living here. Yes I have been all around the country, and I know there are places that have cooler summers and nice views. But there isn't a single place on earth that I'd rather call home.

I understand completely, Central. I'm moving the family back home next month after a 4 year stint in Oregon. It will be nice to be home.

Lived in Texas for the first time during college
Left afterwards and lived in the Midwest and New England

The wife convinced me that living in Texas was something I'd enjoy and it would be closer to some of both of our families.

She was right. I just thought i wanted to go back to the Midwest but after being in Texas for several years, i can't imagine being anywhere else.

Years 0-22: Texas.
22-25: NYC.
25-34: Texas.
34-Present: Colorado.

Love the hill country lake visits and as many Aggie football games as I can get, but the climate throughout the state is miserable and contributes, I believe, to a somewhat 'intense' environment. I'm too old for that.

First Whataburger on the way back to Texas is in Trussville, AL, just north of Birmingham.

One day recently our 7 year-old came home from school and said "hillary is the real president. Trump hates babies." My wife and I looked at each other and said it is time to go home to Texas.

It may take a little time to deprogram our second-grader from the drivel she has picked up from her socialist-in-training classmates..

Welcome home! My wife and I spent 2 years in Arlington, VA while she was in grad school up there. It certainly had some nice qualities, but I was so happy to come home. I didn't appreciate how much friendlier people are here in general (obviously there are exceptions) until we moved back.

I couldn't be happier right now, even with the heat and humidity.

You know, you can say nice things about the place you live now without putting down Texas. Or, you know, just don't post in the thread. Just a suggestion.

My business has me spoiled to the point that sometimes I guess I take it for granted

4-5 months yr in BCS. Basically Sept to January
5-6 months yr on SPI / RGV. Mostly February to June

Interspersed with 6-8 weeks in summer months in Colorado

But I'll say this and I mean it 100%:

If I'm not in Texas, I don't feel right. I can enjoy being on top of the Grand Mesa in the summer. Or a weekend in the mountains around Ouray......but when I cross back into Texas Imjust feel............different. Better.

When taking a road trip, it doesn't matter if you're coming back home through El Paso, the Panhandle, North Texas, or East Texas - even if you still have eight hours left on your drive home, it makes you feel good inside when you see the big Texas Flag and "Drive Friendly - The Texas Way."

Not sure where you're moving, but your kids won't escape that if they're in public school in TX (or anywhere).

10 times? That's way too many.

Only thing getting me back to Texas will be a lot more money or old age....whichever happens first. (I'm guessing old age)

Depends on the school. I teach at a school in TN, and we had a mock "election" and Hitlery only got 4 votes.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.
