So next week the wife and I are taking the kids to Legoland in Florida, and we're planning on stopping somewhere along the general route back to Houston for a couple of days at the beach. My boys (5 and 8) are both hoping to do some fishing, so I'm curious about what would be a good spot to take them.

I'm looking somewhere between roughly Tampa and Gulf Shores, and I was wondering if anyone might have a good suggestion for location or even particular guide who'd be good with younger / inexperienced anglers.

We ended up making our stop in Gulf Shores and booked a 2 hour trip with Fins & Family Charters. Captain Matt did an awesome job helping my boys out, and even though we didn't land any keepers, they still had a blast pulling in some white trout, catfish, and croakers.

If you stop in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, you need to look up Salty Dog Charters and ask for Marty. I was just there last week with the family and took the boys and we loaded up on big trout when no other guide was even bringing fish to the cleaning tables.

He grew up fishing Alabama and Florida waters where a lot of those guides are newbies in the area.

Trust me you want be disappointed!!!
