Does anyone have a simple Timber management plan for mixed hardwood and pine. Need to send to county tax office for timber exemption.

They are also property specific, or are supposed to be. They show what types of woods, as well as soils. Also can use the forest service site.to find licenced foresters around you to complete the plan. Which may be required if it's a smaller property and the forest service is busy.

I agree. Several years ago my dad had them prepare one for about 55 acres.

It was a substantial report and was very professionally done. When he told me that they didn't charge him for it, I was blown away.

They can do it or you can do it with a little research. And they do have a link to vendors.

TFS came out and evaluated our place last summer, mapping 84 points and walking to and evaluating all 84. It took around 11 days due to working only the mornings before the heat took over.
After completion, the district forester had to run the numbers. Then, I had to select a date to go to their HQ and to through a 2 hr course to learn how to and then complete my mgmt. plan.

Sorta on this topic, but I'm looking into purchasing some land and trying to understand how much the timber on it could be worth.

I know this is a loaded question, but assuming that the timber is simply pine and not hardwoods, how much money could one reasonably expect to earn?

Is it a per acre amount? I get that it deals with the height and diameter of the trees as it relates to getting a maximum amount of board feet out of the lumber. But is there a ballpark typical amount that you could use as a yardstick for getting your mind around it?

yeah, start researching on the Texas Forrest Site. they have some fo the current average going prices per ton for saw logs and pulp wood. as well as the way to estimate how many tons would be on your property. unless you have lots of 8+in diameter trees pretty much it will only count as pulp wood.

Thank you, I found the price history, but not the tool to estimate tonnage...anyone know exactly where to find that? I poked around for awhile but never could find it.

My dad was the one that did it. has to do with Basal area

basically use the estimate heights and diameters and then there is a trick to estimate the number of trees in the area then you can get tonnage. I would need to go through and look up exactly how he did it
