Looking for a recommendation for an opening day dove hunt, preferably somewhat local to Houston. Would be willing to travel a little further if the hunting justified it. Probably a little late to the game on this.

South zone? Outskirts of el campo is hard to beat.

Just remember south zone opens on the 1st this year if I recall.

And always bring somwone with you that is a lousy shot. Otherwise you and your group will be done in 10 minutes.

Local to Houston?

Entire South Zone opens during the special whitewing season which will be Sep. 2nd&3rd.

As large as Houston is no Uvalde would not be local. You can drive four hours and hunt clouds of birds or stay around houston and possibly find a limit. If I was going local I'd hunt somewhere around El Campo.

I am serious though, if you hunt dove at the Nooner you will not want to go anywhere else. Whatever kind of sunflowers they plant hold seeds all fall. You can go during the late season and then it's are still there.
