Check the gel test. Most result in little to no expansion and velocities in the 700s. Speer gold dots are excellent but no jacketed bullet will reliably expand at that velocity. The "short barrel" loads are actually reduced power loads. Great for recoil but makes an already handicapped gun even more anemic.

Just got my Shooter Illustrated magazine. There is an article about a new self defense bullet from Black Hills named Honey Badger that is all copper with flutes. I'm intrigued.
