Lucy lost her battle with cancer last night. She was a rescue beagle. She was the best dog we have had the privilege of sharing our lives with here on the ranch. She only weighed 20 pounds, but was the undisputed alpha among our dogs which includes a couple of Lacys and a Lab. We will miss her greatly. For the first time in 43 years my wife does not have a Beagle.

Unfortunately, we've lost several and have two 14 year olds now. Sorry you lost Lucy though.

Sorry to hear. Guess that she was a poster dog for "it ain't the size of the dog, it's the size of the fight in the dog".

All our Beagles have been natural hunters. All of them loved to trail a deer and Lucy was no exception. All except Lucy could leave the yard and chase a deer and come back home. Lucy had no concept of time, direction or space and always had to be found and rescued from her wanderings.

Lucy slept on our bed most nights usually under the covers around our feet. She did not put up with any crap from our other dogs and had each convinced she could kill them. The blue lacy comes in every morning and jumps on our bed. He made the mistake only once of landing on Lucy under the covers. She immediately lets him have it from under the covers and Lucy mistakenly bites by wife on the foot. Blue Lacy never jumped on bed again until he thoroughly checked out the bed and located the lump where Lucy was. It sounded like a she grizzly bear under the covers that morning!

Sorry for your loss.

My beagle/lab mix hates the water, always has. That's right, part beagle part lab and hates water, who would've thought.
