Question folks- I have been reading Lemmons schedule and was going to do a rapid release 15-5-10 went to tractor supply and Lowe's only thing I found at Lowe's was a slow release. It wasn't one of the brands he reccomdeds it was Sta-green. Will that work or do I need to find one of the brands he recommends like imperial? And if so where does one find that brand? It's an acre with half of it Bermuda in Leander outside of A7ustin. Thanks I'm advance

I always prefer slow release unless you have a golf course green and you need immediate green up. You will lose about 40% of quick release nitrogen due to runoff and possibly more in heavy rainfall.

Sweet, so no need to stick to his brand recommended ones?

Am I good to go with a pre-emergent in DFW now that it looks like the next few days will be dry?

I would think so. I scalped and bagged this weekend, and as soon as it's not so windy I plan on putting down my 24D on the bermuda, atrazine on the st augustine, then come back a couple days later with my pre emergent.

You'll want to water in the pre emergent some, so time it with your assigned water day.

I've fertilized the beds but haven't heard from Sperry on when the lawn will need it. Probably end of March, just in time for Easter.

I have a VERY thick yard of Bermuda right now but it is all brown with small amounts of green starting to show up now. Should I scalp it to knock down the thick "dead" grass? I am a new home owner so I am new to the whole "maintaining a yard" thing. I also have some preventer and weed/feed on order to start addressing what is there already.

It's been pretty wet and warm up here in Dallas. Thinking about putting my pre-emergent down tomorrow. Too early? Too late?

I'm in Dallas and considering putting down some Milorganite on the yard today. Is that going to be an issue with thunderstorms very likely tomorrow? I figure the rain will alleviate the need for me to water it in on my own.

I moved to a house outside of College Station three years ago and last winter using the guides posted on this thread put the fertilizer and herbicide schedules on my office calendar so I would not forget. The yard was very neglected with a mix of weeds with a little SA and Bermuda thrown in the mix.

This is my first year using pre-emergent, broadleaf herbicide and the correct fertilizer and I was a bit concerned a few months ago because the yard was mostly dirt after wiping out the broadleaf weeds. I kept the dirt mowed close and to my surprise the existing Bermuda and possibly seed I broadcast late last summer is doing quite well and a nice dark green.

I had a notification I need to apply the second spring pre-emergent but I broadcast 25 lbs of Bermuda about a month ago. I believe I need to skip this application, keep it mowed close and use spot applications of a broadleaf herbicide, correct?

That's probably your best bet. Don't let it get dry if you are still trying to get seed germinated.

I'm in the same boat as txnative in college station. I only fertilized last spring and have not done any pre/post emergents for the yard. It's 1 acre and Bermuda is the turf. We have a ton of clover and beginning to get spurweeds spreading. Should I put down some pendulum and then put out a slow release fertilizer in a couple weeks?

Edit to add that I don't want to waste money on the pendulum if it won't be beneficial until next spring and will just fertilize and keep mowing short

Spray a broadleaf herbicide now, and fertilize a few days after that.

Q4 is a great herbicide that I use on my Bermuda grass yard.

I use Milorganite and Ironite on my yard every 6 weeks, and I will be spraying a Bio-Sure grow liquid fertilizer this week when I overseed the yard with bermudagrass seed.

I have StA here in the Round Rock area. I haven't done much for weed control in the past few years, but need to get things back in line. I also need to green things up for a party we are having around Memorial Day.

I have clover, crabgrass, and chickweed. Is there something I can spray herbicide wise, that will help out? I figure I can go back with a fertilizer soon thereafter, to get the grass to green up. Probably some ironite also, unless y'all say different?

I have StA in RR as well. I was told that ironite will be a temporary fix because our soil is so alkaline. I put out some encapsulated sulfur to acidify my yard so that the grass can use the iron in the soil. I have only had to do it once, and I have very few problems with iron chlorosis.

Ok thanks for the info.

What are you using for weed control? Any tips there?

Reminder to procure your second installment of pre-emergent if you did not purchase in early spring. Also your second round of spring fertilzer treatments are coming soon.

If you applied Dimension, Team, Halts or Balan granules for pre-emergent control of grassburs and crabgrass back in March, you will soon need to make a second application for a full season of prevention. You don't need to apply it now, but many sources close out their supplies after early spring. Start looking now. Buy it when you find it and have it on hand. If you did not treat earlier this spring, there's no point in doing so now.

For most warm-season grasses (St. Augustine, bermuda, zoysia, etc.) you could fertilize April 1, June 1, August 1 and October 1 in most of the state. In far North Texas you could probably get by with three feedings April 15, June 15 and September 15.

I manage the SiteOne Landscape Supply in Keller for you north Tarrant County/ Denton County folks. Full disclosure, I'm not an agronomic expert (irrigation background), but if any of you have any questions about products you've heard Sperry or Lemmon endorse but can't find I'd be more than happy to try to provide some alternatives.
Also, we have locations all over the state so if you are looking for knowledgeable product advice let me know where you're located and I can let you know who to talk to at which store.
I also want to throw it out there that it's never a bad time to pre-emerge (provided your lawn is established). I have several contractors that will mix some sort of granular or liquid pre-emergent at several non-traditional times throughout the year to maximize effectiveness.
I'm always impressed with the amount of practical knowledge on the OB. And please, for those of you that have never branched out outside of the box stores, go visit a professional supply house. The products you're paying full retail for at the boxes are never as concentrate as other options out there.

I'm in Carrollton & I was looking for Dimension and Gallery, so I called a few places. I found one in Frisco called Pardners. The service was very good and they gave me this lawn care summary handout.

Pardner's suggested schedule

I've seen Amaze mentioned here, I thought it was mainly used for flower beds, but I'm certainly no expert.
Lowes has it marked down to $5.49.

What are you folks putting on your bermuda yards right now?

I live just West of DFW and have all bermuda sod. I was planning on dimension for pre-emergent. Anything else I should consider at this time?
