I am looking for some different ideas to make a removable, four swivel-seat, hunting rack to go in the back of a pickup. I am trying to figure out if angle iron will work for my frame, or if I will need to use some type of tubing?

Would either 1"x2" rectangular tubing or would a heavy gauge 1" sq. tubing work better than angle iron? I figure that I will use expanded metal for the floor.

Any ideas for me or plans to your high-rack would be greatly appreciated.

A buddy of mine built a removable high rack in his truck in high school, but something like that is definitly a pain in the neck with trying to install/uninstall. It was all made of 1" square tubing, and was still heavy as s***

Not really worried about weight, as I can load and unload the rack with a tractor or forklift.

Mainly just looking for some ideas that anyone may have on how they built theirs.

4 seats seems like a lot. The best working one I've used had 2 seats, and a crows nest for someone with the light. The high seat was maybe 6 ft higher than the lower two and went up at an angle.

This is a friends high-rack. I was thinking about doing something along these lines. He does quite a bit of varmint hunting. Also, everyone has their own scope or rail mounted red light, so we don't really need a chair for the guy running the spotlight, but that is a pretty good idea.

I was really hoping to see what other ags on the OB had their hunting rack set up like. Thanks for the replies.

Built this in a day, can load and unload myself if I have to, when strapped down with ratchet straps the only movement in it is the truck springs. If you are near Bryan you can come take a look for ideas. First trip it got a cat and 2 grays...

Nice work, Rockin. What did you use for materials? Can't quite tell from the pic. I like the idea of using horseshoes like you did to hook the ratchet straps to.

The legs and floor joists are 1" square tubing, the top rail and braces are 3/4" square tubing. Two main goals were to be light enough to be able to load, and be just big enough to not be uncomfortable. The 1x4 around the base helps not lose brass, or step too far in the dark. The rack it replaced was stupid heavy, and stuck out to the point that I tore it up on brush and trees along narrow roads. We hunted 3 guys in it easy. Going to add swivel boat seats...but folding chairs worked fine. Horseshoes are pretty easy for me to come by, as I make my living with them.

Vertical gun racks are from academy, and bucket for the spotlight cause I couldn't find my milk crate

Using expanded as the floor, I would look at getting one of the 3/4" rubber stall mats and cut it to fit. It will reduce a lot of noise in the floor (drop something, drag your feet while swiveling).

Another good idea. I will probably lay some extra carpet down and wire it to the floor. Trying to keep the project as economical as possible.

Yeah, that's why I went with plywood over expanded metal, too loud, and rubber mat makes it too heavy...that and I had a sheet of 1/2 inch treated plywood in the barn. I haven't done any math, but I bet there isn't $75 in metal on mine.
