Looking at getting some new gear and was wondering what kind of camo pattern y'all use for South Texas hunts? Realize it may change from dove to deer season.

I like Game Guard with the green and brown leaves and *****ly pear cactus.

I fell in love w Game Guard the first time I saw it- because it had the right colors and it closely resembled South Texas.

Now it's become so trendy & plastered on everything I'd feel like a CCA door prize or 6' tall Yeti cooler if I wore it.

Brush Country is another favorite of mine. Game guard is very good as well.

Don't wear the super dark mossy oak and you'll be fine. Camo patterns (or necessity at all) is overblown by a factor of 1000.

Even more so if you are (as most do) hunting out of a tower blind or tripod.

Whatever you pick, the most important thing is to wear it as much as possible so you are used to it. Wear it to work (if possible), wal mart, mow grass, etc

South Texas? Dress like an illegal immigrant. You'll blend right in.

Learn to sit still and any camo will work......

Dove season camo usually involves a fishing shirt of some sort, usually tan, and some jeans. Maybe khaki shorts if it's hot and still.

if you're sitting in an enclosed hunting blind then you can wear just about anything, although darker is better.

stalking - then you can worry about camo

The Henry brothers were the best South Texas hunters that I have known. They were ranchers and hunted almost every day. They never wore camouflage, but always kept the wind in their face and the sun at their back.

Look, I have a **** ton of disposable income and want to "look" cool when I sit in a heated box blind. I have 10 different patterns I wear and mix and match, depending on what boots or hat I am wearing. I have to make sure the pics of my high fenced genetically modified buck make the cover of Texas Trophy Hunters Magazine with a long article about my "hunt". I also have a $400 custom skinning knife I use to open feed sacks, it has never touched blood or deer skin because someone else does that for me.

In short, my camo choice depends on boots and belt selection for that weekend.

You're prolly talking about the same guy that lives in the suburbs that drives the 4x4 truck that has never seen a dirt road except when it goes to daddy's "ranch".

Seems like it might be hard to do both.

But camo is fun. Not just a little fun, but really fun. I've loved camo since I was 8 years old. My son has picked up on that now and it is pretty cool.

Didn't say I didn't like it/wear it myself. Just that it's not as important as advertisements would have you believe.

On opening day of dove season, it's easy to spot the guy that put on weight during the year. He's the one wearing new camo.

In short time I've found this really does not matter with deer. You can wear blue jeans and a bright yellow shirt to stalk them, and they won't care if they don't see you making obvious and sudden movements.

The only times I've found that camo is any real help with game animals is with ducks (but if you hide well it won't matter as much) and especially with Sandhill cranes (they are some observant SOBs).

The best thing about camo is that it prevents PEOPLE from seeing you. When I go hunting on our property I don't really care for the neighbors or anyone driving, walking, or bike-riding by to know that I am out on a hunt or scouting trip. It does work nicely for that.

I have a human face painted on the outside of each window of my deer blind. When I hunt, I can sit there with my face in the window and the deer do not know the difference.

...
Just kidding, but I thought it was funny when someone said this to me.

^I agree. I only really deck out in camo when I'm hunting on your property as well
