I like the feeder style hog trap with a trap door built into the corner. Rather than just catching one or two at a time, this trap setup is large enough to catch entire groups of pigs at once.

Dogs are way more fun than catching them with a trap...

Nothing worse than the feeling of a beat up deer caught in your trap.

I only set mine on Saturday because of that.

We have tried them all......push door, figure 6, trap door, etc. Without a doubt, the best trap for us has been the guillotine-style door with a big pen made from hog panels. Not just a little 4' x 7' trap. The ability to catch 10-15 hogs at a time is huge. You can damn near get the whole group almost every time. Only downside is that it isn't portable. Our pens are approximately 12' x 15'. We've got two of them and have caught 8+ hogs multiple times. Can't even begin to tell you how many times we have caught 3-5. You aren't going to even put a dent in the hog population just catching 1-2 at a time.

On the push door, the little hogs tend to not be able to push it, so you miss out on those a lot, if they don't get in prior to the door closing the first time. That being said, we have caught 3-6 pigs in this style of trap many times. They are nice because you can drag them around with an ATV to wherever they are hanging out. If you get to where they are, your chances of catching them go up exponentially.

The kind that catches hogs! I like this one cause I can drag it behind my 4wheeler and move it around the ranch based on where the hogs are.

It happens but usually only with ratchet head young deer and does, in my experience. A couple years ago I started tying several strands of slick wire across the entrance and piling up brush as we'll. When doing this in combo with sour corn for bait and a few squirts of diesel on my gate hinges, I've caught 0 deer.

We have run into that before, but it was with a spike. Once he got in, he tried to stick his head through one of the squares in the panels and when he did, the backside of his spikes got stuck in the square with his nose sticking through the square. I had to crawl into the trap to hold him down while my BIL unhooked his monster 8" rack. That mf'er went crazy when his head got out. I thought I was going to die right there in that pen. Never thought a deer that small would be so damn powerful! Won't be doing that again.

To prevent it from happening, we cut out the top side of the traps to where deer can jump out. The sides are still tall enough that a big hog can't get out. We haven't trapped another deer in the past 7-8 years.
