My Sportsman's Warehouse Gamehide rain parka is worthless. I'm looking for a new parka for next hunting season. It needs to be well made, very water resistant and breathable. It'll be used as a shell over insulated clothes so it doesn't need insulation.

What parka have you personally used in cold, rainy, windy conditions that held up day after day on an extended hunt?

Helly-Hansen gear is awesome has a lifetime warranty, but it's pricey. I've actually found good, durable, high-performing gear for mountain use from West Marine at a good price.

I use my REI Taku for almost everything and have been very satisfied. It doesn't come in camo though if that is important to you.

Otherwise I would go with the Badlands Alpha jacket camofire regularly puts on sale or Core4elements Torrent rain jacket. I have not personally used either, but I hope to acquire one or both of these jackets in 2014.

I like the Marmot Precip line. Have a Marmot Rincon that has served me well.

I have a 2 piece (fleece inside and rain coat exterior) parka from L.L. Bean that I got as a gift. I like it, but I don't honestly use it as a set all that often.

http://www.roamready.com/rain-jackets.html These guys are former students and hand make the jackets to fit you. They're good friends of mine.

These are some good recommendations. To narrow it down, I'm looking for something hunting specific that's quiet in the brush, durable, and camouflage. I like the look of the Badlands jacket.

On my recent hunt in Kansas I sat out all day in a constant rain that varied from light steady drizzle to a few heavy downpours. I was wearing Core4Element torrent rain jacket and pants and stayed bone dry and comfortable the whole day. A couple of the guys in our group with frog toggs got completely soaked and had to go in mid morning.

Also the LL Bean Big Game System basic shell is only $99 plus you get $10 off any order over $50 and free shipping.

That is a pretty stout deal.

Give us a price range...

I really like Arc'teryx stuff, but you have to be prepared to spend $400 for an entry level shell, no insulation.

They are more backpacking focused but they have a LEAF section of their products that are Law Enforcement Armed Forces.

LEAF is what I buy, it's awesome!

Arcteryx makes great gear, but too expensive. I'm probably maxed out at around $200.

I own a set of Frog Toggs. Some folks like them. Some folks hate them. I happen to be in the former category. Best rain gear I have tried that comes at a reasonable price (~$50 for a set).

I also bought an Under Armour rain shell from Cabelas a couple of months ago. It was being discontinued and on sale for ~$60. It's really nice, too.
