short notice but I got a call from my Buddy who host pheasant tower shoots and he had a group cancel this weekend and is looking for shooters if anyone wants to get some birds for the freezer and do lots of shooting. The shoot will consist of 1000 pheasant it will be held in New Waverly, Texas Staurday starting at 9am wrapping up around 12. The cost is 200 a person and that includes bird cleaning and food. 18 stations and 2 to 3 shooters per station

Anyone in Pennsylvania/Ohio interested in doing this up here?

18 stations surround a tower in the woods and we release certain amount of birds out at a time and guys try to shoot them. each station has 2 -3 guys per station and once the number of birds have been released for that round guys rotate to the next station.

How much ammo if you needed to bring your own?

shells are not provided. For 1000 birds usually go through 8-10 boxes depending on how trigger happy guys get.

Done this shoot about 4 times.

He called it tower shooting and not tower hunting. Should get off your high horse.

Still pretty pathetic.

Here in PA we don't hop in a tower. We hike through fields with our dogs hoping they flush out a non-farm raised bird.

They taste better than wild birds, and you get to keep more than 3 per person. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Also, do you get all of the ones you shoot OR do you have to share with the guys who can't hit their collective a$$es?

At end of the hunt they are divided up but tell you the truth many people don't even take birds. And say what you will about if you like it or not it is fun. Yes its not hunting but you can give a dog lots of work or even a young shooter just getting into the sport. Don't dog it until you try its a lot more challenging than most people think.

what's the point in killing it if you don't plan to eat it?

This seems about as tough as hunting drugged deer unless you are a poor shot.

Talon, I do the same in the fields of Kansas. Usually by myself without a dog. You definitely work for your birds, not just have someone throw them up for you while you sit in a chair.

And what IS the point of killing it if you aren't going to eat it? Unless it is a trophy pen raised pheasant of course...

I don't know some guys just come to shoot. What guys leave behind I will gladly take home they are great tasting birds.

Guys don't knock this, it's not hunting. This started along time ago in Europe before we had clays and throwers. Just think of it as sporting clays with live birds and you can eat what you shoot. Honestly some don't like pheasant, my in laws being some of them. That's fine too I'll take their birds and eat them. You will rarely find a better way to improve your shooting, with this amount of shots and situations in a single day.

This was last minute thing I am hosting one February 8th.

Wish I could make this...I even have an English double gun that is bored Full on the right/front trigger and Cylinder on the left/rear trigger (American guns are the opposite since our birds fly away from the shooter.)

I did a Tower Shoot years ago at the West London Shooting School and it was a great day..."you simply must wear a tie Old Boy, to do otherwise is just not Cricket!"

Back from a waterfowl hunt in Canada last night. Shot more birds than I ever had. I'm in on this.


Fourth one of these hunts with Duman for me. Hell of a good time if you've never been on one.
