Anyone use it? It appears they installed it in my hood. We stream everything and have security cams on wifi and our current internet seems spotty as all get out. I would love to switch if it is worthwhile, but i dont want to go in blind. TIA.

how is the customer service as well? I keep trying to check that it is available to look at the plans but their website always shows technical difficulties, so that doesnt give me a great feeling either.

I have Frontier Fios for about 18 months. It's built off the old Verizon network and isn't terrible.

Last week Frontier had an issue with a regional gateway that resulted in intermittent service at our house. I opened a trouble ticket and got a call back a few hours later from the technician at their regional hub who completed the repair.

He was calling because he didn't see our router come online after the repair. We're using a 3rd party router which is why they couldn't see it but I thought it was great to get an actual tech calling instead of a customer service rep.

I am a former customer, I dropped them a few years ago.

The service itself was solid, but Frontier's customer service is a train wreck. I had been on Vz FIOS for about ten years, and it was great, but when it got sold to Frontier, the problems started to happen

- They started charging me a $10/month rental fee on the FIOS gateway that I owned, it took a lot of phone calls and a lot of time on hold to reverse that.

- I was grandfathered into a lower rate, and they said I could keep it as long as I didn't change my service. A few months after they took over, they "accidently" changed my service, and could not revert my account to the grandfathered rate.

- One day, my internet just went down. I called tech support and dealt with them for maybe an hour before they discovered I had been disconnected for non-payment. I hadn't missed a payment, and I went a couple days without internet why they worked that out.

That was the last straw, and I switched to cable internet.

My experience pretty much exactly. When I moved a couple years ago, tried the att version. It was okay, but not worth the price for the value/performance of cable, so I switched back.

that is unfortunate. it seems like our cable internet is always spotty and dropping here and there and streaming tv or movies constantly buffers randomly. It is pretty frustrating at times.

I agree with all the posters who were once on VRZ but dealt with Frontier after the switch. It took months for me to get rid of being charged for equipment that I had returned long ago. Every time they said it was fixed it would show up on the next bill.

I've been on FIOS, first with Verizon, then with Frontier when they took it over, since it came out. I stopped it for 2 years between like 2016 and 18 or something like that for cable but went back. The internet is solid, customer service sucks bad, and TV is so-so. What is really bad is they all but make you take the phone, which I don't use. I wouldn't mind it so much if it would plug into my printer and operate as a fax line, but it doesn't work. So it just sits there.

We're likely going to drop the TV, up the internet to a gig, and just stream. We don't watch much TV anyway. I just need to get my wifi faster. I have 5 computers running in my home office/studio and 2 of them are running on wireless due to the room config. I could wire my laptop in its current position but it probably won't stay there long term. I haven't decided yet.

Have you upgraded your router recently? We had the same issues. For example, our baby monitor is over WiFi. I don't think a night went by that the stream didn't freeze while we were sleeping. We replaced the router with an Eero mesh system and it hasn't buffered/lost connection since. No changes made to our internet service/provider, simply installed the Eero and put the AT&T modem in passthrough mode.

Good suggestion. For whatever reason, it seems that routers only last a limited time for me. Have started to consider them disposable.

We have Frontier and have loved it since we got it. Agree that the phone part is kind of a bummer, but whatever, all we do is stream and use computers for games and WFH.

We have a gig and have rarely had issues. In just over a year I think it's gone down once? People in the house before we bought it didn't have fiber, so they had to have someone come install it. Gave us the typical 4 hour window and the tech called before the window asking if it was okay to come by early since he was in the neighborhood. Got his work done quick, but forgot to bury the cable outside. Frontier sent someone out the same day to get it done.

Wait, they make you get a phone line to have the fiber internet, or is that if you have tv too? Who the hell wants a phone line?

When they first took over from Verizon it was a pretty rocky transition but things have since gotten better. They now allow you to use your own router and thus avoid the extra $10 fee and there has only been one outage in the last few years and they sent me a text message when it happened and a follow up when it was fixed without me ever even contacting them. They also extended my promotion rate another year without me even calling in to request it.

I don't know a whole lot about routers to know if that is your issue, but I do know enough to know Netgear is overall a good brand. Does Frontier require there own modem/router? If so, did you put it in passthrough mode? How large/spread out is your house. Good thing about mesh is they all interconnect and spread the same network vs. traditional extenders.

Download or use a speed test. Go around your house and see what speeds you're getting. Plug a computer directly into your router and see what speeds you get there. Especially when you're having lagging problems. That'll help determine if it's a router or internet provider issue.

That sounds way too involved haha. Maybe I will or maybe I'll just switch to fiber. We notice it mostly when face timing or when streaming something kn a couple tvs, but it definitely affects everything at once. That router is only a couple years old. I should probably increase speed though anyways as we run a lot of Alexa stuff, have wifi security cameras outside and ring doorbell and waaaaaay too many TVs that all stream.

I run a local fix wireless company.

A year ago, the Republican and Democrat Socialists at the FCC gave a competitor of ours (not Frontier Fiber) a bucketload of money to wire our customers for fiber optic and drive us out of business.

The strange part is that the competitor is genuinely hated by many people around here and their service is pathetic. In spite of having fiber optic available and the potential to drive us out of business, we are cautiously optimistic that enough people hate the other company so much that they will stick with us.

I was talking to someone in another town a month ago where that company has been active for years and he said that they used to have internet from them, but the service was so bad that they dropped it and signed up with a fixed wireless company instead.

I'll just add to the list of people who had Verizon FIOS and then were switched to Frontier. The tech works great, but the customer service sucks. We ended up switching to Spectrum, which also sucks. Those are my only two choices. I hate the oligarchy cable companies have created, but what are you going to do?

It was a sad day when Frontier bought the Fios markets in Texas.

I dropped them about 2 months into that disaster of a transition, messed around with other solutions for a few years (which weren't that much better) and recently went back to Frontier.

It's a really good product but I can't comment on the state of the customer service as I haven't had to talk to them yet - haven't had a single issue in ~ 6 months.

I work for Frontier (an actual employee not a contractor) here locally in BCS. If you have any questions or are interested in signing up let me know. Customer service has gotten a whole lot better since the transition almost 6 years ago now. There is a big push for the Frontier FiberOptic (Formerly known as FiOS) and our new CEO is really big on customer service. I've been able to assist several people that are in neighborhoods where the service has already been turned up, signed up for service, and other than a few minor complaints the service is pretty rock solid. I can't speak for other areas serviced in Texas but here in BCS we are rocking and rolling. Frontier is working on blanketing most of South College Station at the moment and is projected to move into some parts of Bryan at some point. This is a long term 4-7 year project that started this past March. I don't work in our construction or engineering department so I don't have direct access to time frames so I can't tell you when it will be in your neighborhood exactly but I can tell you if it is projected to come, if you are interested.

Well I can tell you that the experience we have received since using your service has been nothing short of spectacular. Thank you very much!

Dubi, sorry for the delayed response, too many posts in 24 hrs. Anyways yes that area is slated to have the Frontier FiberOptic installed at some point as part of the long term project. I don't have time frames to give out since I'm not with the construction or engineering departments but it is on its way.
