I've been playing the Yakuza series recently. Tons of fun mini games and some that take a ton of time. Cabaret Club management and construction company (base defense game) each took a ton of time.

Got me thinking about Gwent in the Witcher 3 and how many hours I poured into that as well and searching for cards.

What's the best mini game within a game? What made it so great?
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

Triple Triad. Card game in Final Fantasy 8.

This game came out in the golden age of CCGs and cards were wildly popular. One of those games that is simple to learn and hard to master. Had to go around and collect them all. There was even an ability to morph a wounded enemy into their specific card. Not as nuanced as the stuff today but again, at the time I loved it and have many hours listening to that music and wracking my brain trying to win.

Love Triple Triad. Just got into FFXIV's free trial and going to the Golden Saucer and seeing all the mini games including Triple Triad has been awesome. My favorite FF mini game though is FFX's Blitzball.

Oops, I saw FF8 cards here and thought this was a worst minigame thread. It wouldn't be so awful except stupid rules spread around in cards like herpes.

Few worse feelings than seeing "Plus has spread through the region" pop up

The most underrated game for minigames was the original animal crossing on Game Cube. You could rarely find NES consoles in the game and they were playable. In an era before common emulators, you could play a wide library of full NES games within Animal Crossing.

You can get Lionheart on disc one playing Triple Triad. That might be the most useful application of a mini game...

But I definitely found this one the most fun.

Pazaak, which is a card game that's been around since the old EU. Pretty sure that's how Han won the Falcon isn't it?

Han won the Falcon from Lando playing Sabacc. Similar sounds but different games.

Ah I knew it didn't seem right, but it also hasn't occurred to me that they'd have made up more than one card game.

I'm honestly surprised it took 5 days for someone to mention this one. Maybe not that surprised though, since I forgot completely about it. I fished the hell out of that pond though.

Would you consider the FF7 Chocobo breeding/racing a game? Or more of a quest?
