Since I've had too much time on my hands, I've become a novice physicist and want to do some more astronomy research. Is there a public online archive I can go and look through telescope images? And if so, are there any co-op sites for people looking to make their own discoveries and sharing them?

You talking about scrolling through images from scientific telescopes? That could be fun.

Cloudy Nights has tons of amateur astronomy photos to scroll through.

I don't know much about astronomy but I suspect there are enough old Hubble images to keep the next 3 generations of astronomers busy.

Do you think it's possible for an average joe to find something in these? Am I wrong in assuming they've all been looked over thoroughly?
