I'm upgrading from a X. My screen is cracked, and the replacement cost is crazy high.

I'm considering the Pro Max just because.

Wife has a 7 and I have an 8, both with cracked screens for several months...been waiting for these stupid things to come out before we buy, so I'm glad we are finally getting close. Trying to decide if the premium for the 12 pro is worth it - I won't use LiDar as far as I can tell, but the extra lens might be nice....and a little better fit/finish & internals....

Haven't ever pre-ordered an iPhone - is there any type of rush, or is it easy enough if you want to get one?

Expect supply to be short. I recommend preordering the second they go live on the Apple Store app. The app is always on time when pre-orders start and doesn't crash like Apple.com.

Will be upgrading from a 6s to the mini.

No it's still lightning. We could see USB-C eventually. I think there's several things why Apple is against it. 1. USB-C is all over the place in terms of power delivery. I think Apple thinks iPhone users are still naive on the usage of compatible chargers even though iPhones and chargers have gotten smart at power management. 2. There's not much of a need for high data transfer rates in iPhones to PC or devices. Professionals would likely use iPad Pros. I think if 8K were a thing then maybe but we're getting WiFi 6, 5G speeds and raise your hand if you hook up your iPhone to iTunes. 3. The transition from 30 pin was a pain for some. I think Apple is riding this out as much as possible to be "pro-consumer". But in the end, they just want to bank off of the lightning license.

Pretty much, but I think we're getting to the point where switching to USB-C wouldn't get a whole lot of scrutiny. Micro usb is finally being done away with. Apple will not be shipping charging bricks with iPhones this year. Just lightning to USB-C/USB cables. If they're so concerned about their "carbon footprint" they could do away with the cable too and go USB-C on iPhones.

Part of me hates that they're not shipping charging bricks, but the practical side of me points out that the tiny cubes suck anyway, and I usually replace them with higher output Anker ones.

I think the new Apple chargers are going to be higher powered.

I think I read part of that decision was deemed due to high cost of 5G chips from Qualcomm. They are trying to cost cut / capitalize in other areas.

Will the signal revert to 4g when in areas where 5G isn't available? Which is basically everywhere. I can't see them being able to get an adequate coverage nationwide with how small a radius each tower covers. Or am I missing a component to the technology?

I drive all over the country and use Spotify with 4g signal with almost zero dead zones. How can 5G hope to get even a fraction of this usability...? Seems like I have zero reason to upgrade from an 11 any time soon if so.

Yes, the phone will still pick up 4G signals.

I usually use the iPad brick to charge my phone, and it does it in less than an hour.

For anyone needing a charging brick, I recommend Anker or RAVPower GaN USB-C chargers.

This one by RAVPower is my favorite. It'll charge anything with USB-C since goes up to 90W. It's smaller than Apple's MacBook Pro charger.

Haven't seen one yet. I have the 11 Pro Max as well.

5G isn't a reason to upgrade this year.
4x optical zoom is helpful as well.

Definitely an iterative upgrade.

Iphone X here. Time to make leap to 12 or 12 Pro? Don't think I want to deal with the size of the 12 Pro Max.
