Depends on what you are trying to capture. If you are trying to capture the voice of one person speaking you really want a dynamic mic close to the person.
Condenser mics are great if you are trying to capture sound from a group of people or sounds from the entire room. But they will pick up everything... air conditioner, passing cars, barking dogs.
In any case, getting the mic closer to the source is better... less echo and other distracting sounds that you may not want to pick up.

If it was me - I would get a Rode Condenser mic and get a second tripod/boom to get the mic as close to the sound source and run the USB back to the Ipad. Don't plug in straight to Ipad.
