My FIL has a ton of VHS/8mm he would like converted to a more modern media. Not any good options in his town. Anyone have any recommendations for good services in Houston (prefer Cypress, Katy, Tomball areas) or online/maildrop? Any suggestions for the most versatile media option?

For the 8mm you can buy a new or used Wolverine converter. I used one of those to convert about 20 years worth of 8mm and Super 8 film to digital.

Would skip the "to DVD" part and go digital. I am no expert, but the magnetic tape may actually be a more stabled hard medium than DVD. So convert to digital, keep one copy on an SSD and another in the cloud, and keep the original magnetic tape.

Assume legacybox is probably easiest way to convert unless you DIY. Which seems to be a pain in the ass.
