Back of Samsung S6 is coming apart. (Possibly swollen battery....?)

So my S6 is a few years old now and the battery life has taken a complete nosedive in the past couple of months. I can maybe get an hour or so now before it dies on me.

Today, I noticed my otterbox cover wasn't fitting like it was supposed to, and took it off only to see that the actual backing of the phone is coming unglued and bulging out a bit on one side.

I haven't taken it apart but I can only imagine it's a swollen battery.

I was already thinking about getting a replacement battery and trying to swap it out myself. (Which will take a bit of phone surgery apparently.)

So I ordered the battery, but my question is.... is my phone safe to use for the next few days? Google says not to leave it plugged in (which I usually do overnight, every night.)

Is it safe to just charge to 100% several times throughout the day?

Galaxy S6?!?! You seem like the type of person that doesn't want to hear "You should get a newer phone", so i'm definitely not going to sit here and tell you "You should get a newer phone"....

I own the phone, unlocked it from Sprint and am paying a $15 data plan.

I'm riding this baby into the ground until it dies on me.

I refuse to be one of these people that buys a new phone every 2 years.

I was that person with an s7, by it crapped out on me after 3 years and became unusably slow. Too many overheating issues. Then I got an unified pixel 3 on sale and haven't looked back. Gonna use this puppy forever

My LG batteries all became swollen. But no worries as aftermarket batteries today are just as good or better. I typically carry 2 extra batteries. Nothing like going from 0% charge to 100% in 10 second battery swap.

You do know that your phone came out almost 5 years ago, not 2 years ago, correct?

Battery transplant successful.

This bad boy is good for another year or two.

Somehow didn't look as bad as I expected, what with the glass backing literally coming off the phone...

I'm the same way. Got a hand me down s3 in 2014 that I kept running with replacement batteries and a screen replacement until 2017. Now on a moto g5 plus that's pretty solid. Will hopefully get 4 years out of it.
