For people who ported a number over, what was your process? I have the new physical handset here. Do I port the number, then wipe the old phone? Relevant note: old phone's lease is up, so i have to return it or face a stiff penalty.

I don't remember the exact process, but I remember it was pretty simple. I did everything though Fi (either online or on phone).

I was coming from an other android phone, so I used the cable included with my new Pixel phone to transfer everything from old phone to new.

You can also call their support and get a live person who is helpful.

In other news, if you want to use my referral code (8C80JD), you're welcome to. We'll both save twenty bucks.

If I remember correctly, I think you can port it through the Project Fi app on the new phone?

Mine was a dead phone, so nothing to Port over. I do know that the number ported over in minutes! They had a great deal on the X4 recently and the G6 and picked up one for my wife and another for my oldest for Christmas! I will know more tomorrow on how easy it is to move stuff over.

REALLY tempted by this deal. I'm already on Google Fi with a Pixel 2 XL. Didn't want to upgrade but this upgrade would make it essentially free (+tax) as long as the gift cards are spent wisely.

hmmmm

Ugh... pulled the plug and upgraded from a Pixel XL to a Pixel 3 with this deal. Been a Google Fi user for three years and it's worked great, especially some of the places overseas I have been.

The original Pixel XL and the new Pixel 3 are roughly the same size, correct? I saw the screen sizes are the same and just wasn't ready to go over the size of the original XL. Also looking forward to a front facing speaker again!

The travel GC is a screaming deal if you would spend the money travel anyway. Just ordered a Pixel 3 and will be spending the gift cards somewhere in Australia or Asia next year.

Regarding referrals, right now Google is crediting $20 to the person being referred and $100 to the referrer. Sign up with my code and I'll paypal/venmo you $40 once I get the credit (so that it is split evenly, $60 per person).

Can someone please share the benefit of Google Fi? I'm with AT&T currently, but looking hard at a Google Pixel 3XL among other pure/stock Android (or Android One) devices. I tried googling it and looking it over, but really couldn't tell right off what the benefits are over regular data through like AT&T. Maybe it's quite a bit cheaper???

The clincher for me is that the data service works (at no additional charge) in 170 countries. We're traveling for a year so that has come in handy.

It really depends on how much data you use when not on wifi. You pay for what you use and so your bill could be pretty cheap. The cool factor is that it uses 3 networks plus wifi for service, so you will get the best signal where ever you are.

There is also a wifi network that Google Fi phones will auto connect in order to save your data.

My bill typically runs about $30 for phone service.

Wow - very cheap. We have unlimited AT&T right now and our bill is well over $100 per month

Appreciate it! I'm going to check it out. Seems like it might be the way to go. Only problem is my wife is not on a Google Fi compatible phone (or at least I don't think she is). She's got an LG V20.

I've been using Google Fi for about three years and have enjoyed it. The worldwide coverage has been good, even in some pretty remote places.

That's a heck of a referral bonus. I see that it's valid until Jan 09, 2019. Guess they are really pushing Fi through the holidays.

If I can't get in on the $200 service credit, I'll use your code.

Same here...2 phones with unlimited data and pay about $150 after taxes (also get HBO Go). Data usage varies but is often above 10 gigs as I stream a lot on my hour + commute each way along with Waze. Does sound enticing though.

This is intriguing - we are on AT&T with iPhones and they keep jacking our unlimited plan up. It's probably time to do something.

I'd be down with toning down my "DGAF" data usage habits for this kind of discount.

Anyone going to try it with an iPhone? Any hurdles you see?

The most they'll charge you for each month is 6 gigs ($60). Then they throttle you at 15 gigs.

Another point, when they throttle you at 15gb you can remove the throttle and pay $10 a gb for normal speeds beyond the 15gb threshold

Since you're on AT&T, you may want to check out Cricket. We pay $70 with taxes included for 2 lines of 5 GB each. In order to get that cheap on Google Fi, we'd have to total 3 GB. Cricket uses the AT&T towers so you should see the same coverage.
