I am switching to XFinity Gigabit internet and plan on purchasing my own router and modem (not a combo device). I am currently looking at either the Nighthawk AC1900 or the Nighthawk X4S AC2600 router. Additionally, I am leaning towards pairing it with the Arris Surfboard SB8200 modem (DOCSIS 3.1).

Is the X4S overkill? Is the AC1900 the better choice due to the open source support? Reviews are great for both. We are a family of 6, game on a PS4 Pro and stream all of our TV (4K movies occasionally).

X4S has Openwrt support, just an fyi. Its what i use.
