Any services offered around Bryan College Station area that can try and recover data from my WD Passport? I assume it's dead since it won't pop up on my MAC anymore.

Does it spin up?

Clicking noises? Nothing at all? Any lights turn on? Tried another port/computer? Different cable?

Data recovery is not cheap usually, try everything you can first.

It lights up, spins twice and clicks then does one beep and stops "working" like it goes into sleep mode. Never pops up on desktop.

Is it still spinning inside in this sleep mode or does it stop?

Do you have an anti-static bag? Put the hard drive in one of those and freeze it for 30+ minutes, then try and hook it up again.

It literally sounds like it stops spinning.

I don't think so. I have a ZIPLOC bag. Will that work?

That's probably fine for an external hd

Nope, they're not.

However, it's not nearly as useful with more modern HDDs and can actually hinder future data recovery attempts.

It could be a bad data cable, have you tried another cable? The drive may spin itself down if it doesn't find an active connection.

I don't have another data cable that fits this. I'll see if I can find one.

So I found another cable and it still does the same thing, sound like it's spinning up with a scratchy sound, does this a little bit, sometimes longer depending on which side of the HDD I lay it on, then eventually makes a one loud beep and spins down.

At this point I believe I have everything off of it that I had already moved into Google Drive (remembered that yesterday) so I don't have much to lose and I may just go ahead and try putting it in the freezer to see if I can get it to come up once. I just need it once and will pull everything off to double check.
