Trying to put the little one's iPad mini into a new case and the screen flashed, now it looks like this. Is this fixable or do I need to start the search for a bootleg replacement?

It looks like the screen cracked, possibly under the glass. You might want to look into a screen replacement first.

Yup, the screen is toast. If you care about warranty support, have AppleCare and are close to an Apple Store, I'd start there. If non of the above apply to you, check with some local repair shops if you don't feel like you can find the parts online and replace it yourself.

Apparently I purchased the warranty when we got it, seeing as it was for our 2 year old (now 4). $100 deductible and now getting a brand new 32GB version.
