I guess the Medal of Honor games made tr campaign mode standard?
Well, the first MOH games came out earlier. MOH was 1999, and 1942 didn't come out until 2002. MOH had the campaign/story mode down, and multiplayer was an afterthought to run around and shoot people. 1942 introduced an integrated battlefield, with a heavy emphasis on classes and support roles with a rock/paper/scissors approach to effective combat, and of course vehicles.
I think BF introduced a campaign with BF2, but all the battlefield campaigns have felt like an afterthought to me. I've bought most COD games to play the campaign, without expecting to play the multiplayer much. I've bought the battlefield games to play multiplayer, with no expectation of the campaign.
