Thanks! I should have hit 20 already. The tips from a few pages ago that said to cash in as many bounties as possible sure have made things go quickly. I just haven't been able to play in a while.

Will the crucible get easier once I have access to some of this stuff after level 20? Or is that mode supposed to be balanced out to give us little guys a fighting chance? Is it experience or gear? Both? I'm getting smoked.

Level differences are negated in the Crucible. You do the same amount of damage per shot to a 32 as he does to you. Iron Banner is the only mode where that's not the case.

But the advantage higher-leveled people do have is the extra perks their gear and weapons have.

Bounties are the key. But value time > bounties. If there's a 5,000 xp bounty to complete a Mars Heroic mission, but all other bounties are focused on a different area like cosmodrome, then I'd skip that one. Burnout comes too quickly if you spend too much time chasing small amounts of XP.

Before you turn in bounties, or before you hit the 30 second timer at the end of a mission, switch to your class and gear that needs to be leveled. That way you aren't pouring XP into things already maxed out.

Those are probably the best tips I can give. If you still have story missions left to complete, wait to do them until you out-level their base requirement and do them on heroic for the XP bonus.

Edit: one last tip if you're pretty casual. Level another character that's the same class as your main. That way you can swap gear and do heroics/weekly/nightfalls/raids twice a week. Just delete one character when you decide you want a third class one day.

I liked that article.

It seems to me Destiny is based solely on behavioral rewards, that's why there are complaints about lack of content and things like "cheesing" -- once the rat knows the location of the cheese in the maze he's going straight for it. Then people aren't even playing the game, they're just trying to figure out the quickest way to get the prize.

But if Bungie can keep people playing that way then they can continue to sell.

I think the following quote is where Destiny falls completely on its face outside the lack of content.

Destiny is too guilty of not respecting the players time in this regard. Its one thing to not get an exotic at the end of every activity, its is quite another to run raids and nightfalls taking up probably around 7 hours average a week (over a few characters) (and this is just running the activiites) to get absolutely ZERO of what you want. I;ve always advocated some type of "token" system where if you run the raid 5 times you get 5 tokens and can buy one piece of gear (or whatever). Having the entire system swing on a RNG system can be infuriating.

Nightfalls, same thing. Run like 30 nightfalls or something and get to pick any exotic you want. Or something like that.

Intermittent reinforcement. The player knows there is a chance of a reward but not what it will be or when they will receive it so they play more. If they knew when the reward would come they would only play for that time.

I like chaotic. I've found the most fun I have is when people are able to screw around.

That was VOG, wasn't it? I seem to recall being unable to pass the floating rocks.

That's how long its been since my first completion--like a month or so.

Yes, y'all were the first to carry me through any raid, while my kids were in my ear telling me how much I sucked. I didn't forget.
