Was discussing this with friends yesterday and was surprised how many thought he had no chance.

My contention was he was a shoe in with another 7-10 years in the booth based on both his playing years and his broadcast years (as an overall contributor).

Am I being totally unobjective (I was always a huge fan of his) to think he'll get in easily assuming he stays in the booth a few more years?

Love Romo, but no shot as a player. Don't see how his broadcast career changes that.

He has no chance.

2-4 playoff record
4 Pro Bowls
never led the league in any significant passing category (completion % once)
35th all-time in completions
34th in yards
24th in touchdowns

If he broadcast games for 25-30 years maybe he'd get in as a contributor,

He is more annoying than Collins as a colour guy

His amazement over the difficulty of a 1 yard pass was laughably bad yesterday

He was an above average QB that choked in the playoffs

Not a hall of famer

When you look at adjusted stats and ratios his stats are very good:

Yards per attempt, adjusted yards per attempt, and net adjusted yards per attempt are all 7th all time

His touchdown percentage is 20th all time, completion percentage 10th, while int percentage is 44th, interestingly all three are tied with Peyton Manning.

4th quarter comebacks is 17th.

Injuries and lack of playoff success will probably keep him out of the HOF but I think he's one of the most underrated QBs of all time and if he had been part of a competent organization he would have multiple rings.

It was amazement of the play call itself.

Was a fan and defender of Romo wire to wire. Not a HOF based on his playing days. Add in a few good decades as an announcer and he could get in. Then again Howard Cosell still hasn't gotten in based on his broadcasting, so I wouldn't hold my breath

I believe Cosell hasn't gotten in based on people thought he was an a-hole.

and speaking of the Hall of Fame...Megatron is on the ballot for the 1st time.

and you know...his numbers and his early retirement have not aged well.

in part because current WR's like Hopkins and Mike Evans...have put up numbers that are not too far behind Megatron's pace...and also put up with struggling franchises during their careers...especially Evans

Ring of honor yes. HOF no. If he catches that snap in Seattle and Crayton catches that pass against NYG maybe his career is completely different, who knows. But for a UFA, helluva career and doesn't get near the respect he should IMO.

Good point on Megatron
Retiring when perfectly healthy doesnt play well with lose thst have literally given up body parts to play

So, Barry Sanders shouldn't be in then by your logic.

3X first team all pro
2X second team all pro
All 80s team

Got in HoF second year on Ballot.

Interesting route for Romo to take.

Barry sanders is #3 all time. In rushing
Megatron is #33 and plummeting
Antonio Brown is ahead of him

Barry sanders is downgraded from what would have easily made him the greatest had he not quit

Not HoF. Choked in the playoffs.

I liked him better as a player than an announcer.

There were always 4 qbs you would take ahead of him, no question. So no.

I mean there are very few QBs with better careers than the likes of Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers. Romo was a great QB in his own right, he just had the unfortune of playing with some of the greatest ever.

Right. So for his era...meh. All you can do is compare to what's around them as the game changes a lot.

Romo has better numbers than lots of qbs in but for their era...

Cowboys Ring of Honor

Hall of Fame....maybe in 20 years when you combine his play+broadcasting (if he keeps it up, I think he will go into coaching)

another thing working against Romo...

one of his contemporaries...Donovan McNabb was 9-7 in the playoffs.

and should be ahead of Romo in the pecking order
Old Tom Morris
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No. HOF talent but Jerry's incompetence and tome lost due to injuries are too much of an obstacle

I will always have a soft spot for Romo. He carried some bad teams, choked a few times, and suffered some horrible luck.

Unfortunately he's not even close to being a HOFer.

He sure was more dynamic, but Eli has 2 Skins on the wall.

He was a great quarterback, but he is not a HOFer. His numbers are not even close to those of Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, or Peyton Manning. His best regular season came in 2014 when he completed 69.9% of his passes for 3,705 yards and 34 touchdowns against 9 interceptions.

No. The numbers are just not there.
I love ROMO. I think he's awesome, but no way.

If there was an honorable mentions wing of the HOF, he would be in it.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
4 x Pro Bowl and 1 x 2nd team All Pro. No standout regular seasons or postseason success. Not even close based solely on playing career.

Is being a network color announcer enough of a contribution to warrant HOF consideration?

well.....then that means he is not a hall of famer.

HOF means you are the best of the best.....not pretty good.
