Gotta give the owners credit. They have the media, fans, AND players putting their messaging out into the bloodstream.

it really is a work of art.

Never been accused of that before.

"The fact of the matter that this is both a good deal and a not-so-good deal, depending on what kind of player you are," NFLPA presidential candidate Sam Acho says in a video posted on Twitter. "Sixty-five percent of players in the NFL last year made minimum salaries. So when you talk about 20-percent increase effectively year over year in exchange for one extra game, that's a really good deal. These are the kind of players that get excited about a fourth preseason game, because that's another chance for them to show the coaches and the team their value. These are also the players that get excited about another playoff game, because for them that's a pay raise and not a pay cut."

So the elite players are going to convince the rank and file to reject this CBA. The owners will then lock them out and crush them. Any deal after that will be worse than what's on the table today.

The problem with this logic is that it's not just 1 extra game in a vacuum. Football has a cap on how many games can be played period, with the game being weekly and the necessity for a significant offseason for injury recovery.

So, for me, it seems the players are getting too little in exchange for one of the few times to increase the number of games in a season.

Sure, if you assume that the players are unable to convince ownership that they will not cave in a lock-out.

But, that's the basics of negotiation. No one is going to improve an offer if there's no risk of the deal not getting done. However, this doesn't mean the the current offer is a good one.

You're assuming the entire time this was done in a vacuum, as if there hasn't been risk a deal wouldn't get done. The players began posturing 2-3 years ago. De Smith was on national radio shows in the offseason last year threatening holding out. Entire player symposiums were created around understanding and protecting wealth in the case of a lock-out.

Maybe, just maybe, both sides acted in good faith and hammered this thing out the right way for most of the league.

That's an easy assumption to make. The owners know that eventually the players will cave.

This is the only basis you say it's a good deal then. They should get far less because they suck at organizing.

Back to my premise above. There are years and years worth of data about players spending themselves into poverty because they are a) under educated, b) irresponsible with money, and c) and have no concept of saving and/or investing.

The owners didn't become billionaires because they act like the players. A lockout will be inevitable if the players reject the CBA. The owners will just wait until the players run out of money (it will happen), and we already know they are willing to use replacement players, they have done so in the past.

I think the money is too big and the talent drop-off is too high for this.

They won't need replacement payers.

Any player making the minimum isn't going to hold out for long.

Is it ok to hate on JJ Watt now?

What a self absorbed faker. Can't even bother to show up to the meetings.
