28 years old too. I wonder if this is just for health preservation?

Made $64mm plus endorsements. Walked away from $21mm plus bonuses over the next two years.

Good luck to him, couldn't have been an easy decision.

1092 tackles for his career, that's the equivalent of being in almost 1100 car crashes...kind of surprised more guys don't do this.

One of the best LBs the last decade. He was so smart and such a sure tackler. Carolina's D just took a big hit

Don't forget Sean Lee retiring early in the season every season.

I was shocked he was only 28 because he's been so dominant for so long, but that's because he was immediately great.

Gotta be tough but needs to think about his health and life after football.

Robert Smith was 28. Barry Sanders was a pretty young 31, and would have likely passed Emmitt Smith.

I wonder how many more we see do this. If one has generation changing money already, why put the body through what they are? This isn't baseball where the body can last well after playing. It's the smart move.

I don't know that it's anything to be angry about. Anyway, it's football, so nothing is guaranteed.

it is interesting looking back at how vilified Robert Smith was for retiring early.

but it turns out he was a man ahead of his time

Yep. Really makes you wonder why Etienne would go back to school. He's probably paying about $20,000 for each time he touches the ball next season. Signing a running back to a 2nd deal is probably poorly spent money almost every time.
