Because I would expect it to be partially guaranteed and rest incentive based.

Rightly or wrongly, Cousins definitely doesn't have to accept that kind of contract. Definitely getting a fully-guaranteed deal, especially if its only three years.

Interesting Brock comment, seems that Broack hasn't found his fit yet.

The fact that he is about to become the highest-paid quarterback is absurd. Look at his stats from the last game against the Giants. He's too inconsistent to be relied on for that kind of money. If he is getting $30 mil, Rodgers should ask for $40 mil.

His last 3 season's have been pretty damn consistent and that's with a poor supporting cast.

At some point people gotta realize he's one of the better QB's in the NFL and if the cap keeps increasing and great QB is as scarce a resource as it is, the next proven QB up to get a contract is always going to be the highest paid one until the next one comes along.

So you pick the last game of the season, where they don't have a chance on making the playoffs, is an away game, and where he has one foot out the door to judge his career on? Got it.

Cousins isn't the best QB, but he will be paid like one. He's a good, young QB in the middle of a bidding war. He's also free and clear, and no team has any leverage on him at all. The NFL is specifically designed to prevent this situation, but the Redskins have such a horrible front office that they basically groomed him to get a record contract somewhere else.

Okay, statistically he may be top 10. You have a soon-to-be 30 year old QB who has never won a playoff game and is 26-30 as a starter. The compensation does not match the product.

Case Keenum is getting $18 million. I'd say the compensation for Cousins is reasonable.

is Drew Brees still the last free agent QB to become a star?

after being unhappy with the Chargers in 2005, he signed with the Saints in 2006 and of course won a Super Bowl.

that was 13 years ago.

(I don't consider Peyton's move to Denver being of the same vein)

Favre going to MIN. Star for one season

Favre similar to Peyton made the free agent move late, very late in his career

seems like it's been a while since a free agent QB (in mid-career) paid big dividends for his new team

Because it's very rare for a top QB to be a free agent
