If you want to make the Pro Bowl interesting and provide at least some motivation (Pride) at least for the players that are involved, why not make it Old Vets versus Young Guns.

Guys in the league for less than five years versus guys in the league for longer than that.

Thoughts???

It's still an all star game and setting an arbitrary age partition. Vs conference doesn't make this particular all star game less stupid.

they've been trying to figure this out for years on the Pro Bowl. i think the short answer is that the NFL is just not conducive to making an all star game work.

I would rather they just make some list like an honor roll.

I would be more interested in practice squad players duking it out for a roster spot. Maybe each team could put up the 2 best practice squad players and there could be an NFC vs AFC unsung heroes bowl.

Just let the 2 worst teams play each other for the #1 draft pick. It would be way more interesting than what we get now.

Does the winner get the first pick or the loser?

Loser- I'm thinking there would be some sand bagging going on and the game might actually be worse.
Winner - the technically second worst team has an advantage to getting the top pick

Don't think your scenario would work

How about the winning conference gets $10mm more cap space on their roster for the next season? If the AFC wins, then all AFC teams get more money to spend the next season. Would give some guys something to play for as they could be up for a contract renewal.

Present the HoF selections and end of year awards at the Pro-Bowl. Make it and end of the year celebration type event.

Cancel it. Haven't seen a minute of it since I was 8 years old, and got excited about seeing Tony Dorsett go into the game.

They should just turn it into a full on Japanese game show contest

Throw in the Wipeout course, that game where they have to do poses while a wall rushes at them and the one where they eat random items to see if they're actually chocolate.

No. The winner gets the #1 pick.

Make it 7 on 7 flag football without pads. Rather than a team from each conference, you have a team from each division and do an 8-team single day tournament. Linemen and kickers can hangout by the pool or whatever.

I agree, and if they ever decide to quit playing the Pro Bowl just couple the end of year celebration with some celebrity 7-on-7. Current players, former players, celebrities, etc. (similar to the MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball game)

Just name all-AFC & NFC teams and award players contract bonuses for being named to them. As a reward, the lucky players can have a free trip to Hawaii.

For the pro bowl just give the winning team double the payout of the losing team, instant competition.

For the No 1 pick they should have reverse playoffs. The last team in each division plays each other just like the regular playoffs, no wild card teams. This year it would be:

AFC

1) West: San Diego (5-11) VS 4) North: Browns (1-15)
2) East: Jets (5-11) VS 3) South: Jacksonville (3-13)

NFC

1) East: Philadelphia (7-9) VS 4) West: San Francisco (2-14)
2: South: Carolina (6-10) VS 3) North: Chicago (3-13)

All the games are played in neutral sites, like bowl games, no home field advantage. But they don't play in NFL stadiums, or college stadiums, they play in rural Texas high school stadiums like Cut and Shoot, Monahans, Snyder, Paris, etc

The better you do, the better your pick, the worse you do, the worse your pick (within the first 8 picks anyway).

And to top it off, Dave South does the play by play for all the games.

But in fact is there REALLY that big of a difference between CLE and SF?

But for multi-millionaires, does $64K v. $32K really matter?

I like the "toilet bowl" idea a few posts above. Winner gets first pick.

That difference would pay a fine throughout the season.

You have to wonder what kind of PE these guys were getting back in the day. Outside of TY Hilton, the AFC was completely outmatched.

Yeah, most of these guys want no part of playing an actual game. The free trip was the biggest part of the reward for most of them, so sticking the game in whatever lame-ass town the SB happened to be was not well received at all. Who the F would want to go to Houston. So while it's not in Hawaii, I'm guessing Orlando and its attractions are a decent alternative, especially for players with kids. Not to mention, the grounds crew doesn't have to mess with reprepping the field this week either.

Have a 7 on 7 tournament kind of like what the NHL does. Hell, even have a 7 on 7 tournament with lineman only, just for the entertainment.
