James Casey was cut in October to make room for another player. Does he get a Super Bowl ring?

Depends on the owner of the team. If the owner wants to set that rule and buy that player a ring, he/she is welcome to do so.

I actually believe the players vote on shares and partial share s of the playoff money, that may go for rings too.

I'd imagine he'd get one since he was a part of the team. I remember when the Cardinals were playing the Rangers in the WS, and the commentators mentioned that one of the pitchers for the Cardinals on the mound at the time would be getting a ring no matter the outcome of the series since he played for the Rangers earlier in the season.

The league pays for a set amount. Anything above that, the owner has to pay for. That is when former players get their ring.

You might be thinking of Bengie Molina, the Rangers' catcher that was traded from the SF Giants mid-season in 2010.

Kraft is a cheapskate, so I doubt he buys rings for those cut earlier in the season.

You're likely applying the MLB rule to this situation. Case in point was bengie molina when he got traded to the rangers from sf. Giants players voted to give him a fill share, and thus get the cash bonus and ring even though he was on the Rangers when the Giants won the ws.

Don't know exactly if that's the same way in NFL.

It's entirely up to the owner. Some organizations get rings for every employee, not just the players.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Yeah, Kraft is a cheapskate. Is that the reason that the SB rings from 2015 cost 36.5K EACH?

quote:
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- ESPN's Sal Paolantonio was at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday, reporting for SportsCenter, and he rattled off a few impressive statistics about the New England Patriots Super Bowl rings.

1. The rings cost $36,500 each and are the most expensive ever produced by Jostens.
2. Kraft purchased 150 rings for a total of $5.475 million.
3. There are 4.85 carats in each ring.

Ted Johnson himself said that Kraft is a cheapskate 2 weeks ago while talking about the Panthers owner flying all employees of the team to the super bowl. He basically said Kraft is WAY TOO cheap to ever do that for every employee on the team.

I think that his actions regarding the cost of those rings speaks for itself.

And some give a fake SB ring to a worthless QC coach.

I don't know that story, but it sounds great. Details?

Seam Payton hated the defensive qc coach when they won the SB. He fired him, called other teams to tell them not to hire him, had Benson give him a replica ring instead of a real ring like the other coaches. He demanded a real ring and Payton told him to GFY. To get back at the Saints and Payton, he called the NFL and became the whistle blower on Bountygate.

That was a mighty costly fake ring.

Interesting... I'm not sure how I'd never heard that until now. I knew about the whistle blower part, but the ring story is funny.

that entire story was from Vilma's lawsuit and what he alleges. No reason not to believe it. Pretty funny.

Kraft spent a lot on the rings, but it isn't some crazy number that is just way outside the realm of normal. NFL foots the bill for $5k for 150 rings, anything over that cost for 150 rings is assumed by the owner.

The organizations also usually get the "fake" copy rings to give to as many people around the organization as they want.

I knew a guy who got one from San Antonio. Pretty cool ring even though it wasn't real diamonds.

Pretty cool that Benson bought everyone the real deal when the Saints won.

Edit: except for the defensive QC guy, apparently.
