How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anyone have any insight as to working at the Houston Technology Center in Channelview? I interview for an operations technician role on Wednesday and can't seem to find much info about it. I get working on/in the pilot plant and the details an operator does and such but no clue as to schedule, pay, benefits etc.. internet seems pretty quiet on this particular role.

Thanks for any and all information

Most plants work a 12 hr / 4 on 4 off rotating days/nights schedule. A couple plants do the DuPont schedule too. Techs start out around 31$/hr and top out in the $50's. You'll make 100k starting out and most years are 150-200k based on overtime. LYB has a pension plan as well.

Just make sure you understand those numbers are with A LOT of overtime. And from what I've been told it's pretty much expected that you'll work it.

$31 / hr is about $65K without overtime
$50 / hr is about $104K without overtime.

You are going off a 2080 hour year. The first reply said 4 x 12, then 4 off, so you are looking at a minimum of 2190 hours. So, $50 per hour would be 109,500 at straight time. I don't know their overtime rules, but ot does exist, so the 109500 is the bottom.

There are regular overtime hours worked into the schedule that are not straight time. There is also a night differential of a few extra $ per hour based off which plant it is. Double time pay on the 7th day worked, as well as overtime pay on holidays you're scheduled to work.

I've worked as few as 100 hours of overtime a year to as many as 600+ hours of overtime based on my own choice to work it. It's not mandatory unless there is an outage, turnaround, or holiday vacations that coverage is needed.

Forgot to say in my OP I'm a current LYB Operations Technician so if you have any other questions let me know.

Edit: Forgot to add the 401k is 6% match.

Some plants are moving towards requiring the Process Technology degree / certificate. It's a two year associates I believe. Most plants will want some type of industrial / plant experience. They do take a lot of prior military as well.

I already interviewed for the job. Currently work at a major oil refinery but the morale and management is garbage. People trying to bail as quick as possible. Been where I'm at for 8 years. Work DuPont schedule, but we're all working 1K plus hours of overtime. No life outside of work. Granted, paid very very well, but we're all tired of living at work.

Interview went well. Got my answers. Hopefully hear something later this week. Way less overtime and able to actually plan stuff with my family. And most of the mini units are inside so no more weather swinging the hell out of my units when it rains or temperatures drop.

Also had no experience prior, straight from the military.

Good luck man. Even if less money, that sounds like a good change of pace.
