So, the casino I work for just had a tribal election and as a result, the majority of the executive team was terminated. I survived, albeit with a very large target on my back; the Vice-Chairman does not like me, as she wants to promote a tribal member into my role (The chairman disagrees).

While I am relatively safe for the short term, it does have me thinking again, about potentially getting out of the casino industry and shifting the focus of my marketing expertise.

I have led marketing teams at each property I have been at for the past 15 or so years, and am very skilled in database marketing, branding, PR, and promotions. I have also worked at a software company, so I have skills for product sales and B2B, in addition to gaming/hospitality/tourism marketing to consumers.

If anyone is looking for a marketing guy, or knows of someone who is, I'm to the point where I definitely would like to discuss a potential change in my path.

I don't have to make a move, but I wouldn't mind taking that element out of things.

Thanks,

I definitely wouldn't teepee toe around it. Not a good feeling knowing your scalp could be next.

Best of luck in your search.

Indigenous puns aside, I would consider whether you want to continue to work for a tribal business.

We have been approached before to build housing on reservations. It was too big of a roll of dice given the exceptions and inclusions that come with a contract directly with a tribal organization.

Additionally, my brother worked for an Indian casino then a tribal hospital in central California areas. The casino did as you described and wipe a bunch of the executive team off the map. Brother survived but the writing was on wall. Couple of months later they took out the rest of the guys.

Tribal hospital was not much better. Issue there was managing departments / employees. You can imagine on your own the issues that arise from a certain set of employees being untouchable and another set expendable.

Your experience may have been better. But I would take my services to an employer where US law and protections like EEOC are in play. Good luck!

Is there a way you could get me a few comp nights before you do anything drastic?

So, I ended up being out of town for over a week, and then took a few days unplugged before getting back to work.

I actually would prefer to be back out of tribal employment and back into the non-tribal world.

If anyone needs a marketing exec, let me know - 20+ years of experience both hospitality and product.

Thanks,
