Howdy, I graduate in December with a BS in Urban planning. No real work experience in the field, just a one semester land development internship and roughly 7 years retail experience.

So far I have been looking through sites like Indeed and have been submitting resumes to the VERY few entry-level positions I am finding. Seems like almost everything listed requires experience. Which is understandable.

Are there any other job listing sites that I need to be looking into? Send my resume anyway to the jobs that require experience? Or would I be better off just applying for another internship in planning to gain more experience?

How much experience are those jobs looking for? Was it required or just recommended?

Experience doesn't necessarily mean on the job, the internship/retail/school could also count for entry level.

Texas Municipal League, you should be able to find some relevant openings here. These municipalities likely will lag behind private industries in pay, but they are more stable and usually offer good pensions, so it's a mixed bag.

What kind of gig are you looking to land in the immediate to mid-term? Municipal planning department? Private developer? Professional consultant?

Are you interested in a related field that could kick you off with some experience or become its own thing? Or are you wedded to an entry level planning job?

Thanks for the replies! I'll definite check out those links. And I am not married to any certain occupation currently. Shopping around for really anything either planning related or not. Trying to keep an open book.

And most jobs that I see that require experience are generally not entry-level jobs. Mainly saying I'm not finding any entry-level.

before you graduate. Please go to caps.tamu.edu
in the services section look for career counseling and exploration.
consider taking the focus2 assessment, especially since you have been paying for those resources.
It will look for workplace values and interests.
Have you visited the career center?
