Duties: Responsible for deployment, patching, managing, and maintaining Linux (RHEL and AmazonLinux), Tomcat, Apache, and WebLogic servers. This position focuses on making sure the organization's systems are secure, operating at optimum performance levels, delivering the required information to end-users, and interacting properly with other systems. In addition, this position will perform the implementation and maintenance of applications as required.
  • Implement/deploy, maintain and troubleshoot servers, backup devices, and monitoring interfaces in virtualized Linux/Windows production and test environments
  • Perform OS minimization and hardening per CIS requirements
  • Deploy application code and support other application management functions
  • Review changes, support issues, functionality changes, and requirements for server and document necessary configuration changes
  • Act within identified guidelines, standards, and policies
  • Include as a normal operating procedure, documenting configuration changes and problems/fixes, so that history aids in future tasks
  • Work in an Integrated Project Team (IPT) environment requiring interaction with other server engineers, users, and client managers in identifying requirements, specifications and managing project planning activities
  • Evaluate advanced technologies and provide recommendations regarding standardization, sizing, and costs for server purchases
  • Plan and provide for updating the operating system software to comply with support criteria
  • Perform in a fast-paced environment where project deadlines are critical and multiple projects run in parallel
  • Work independently with minimal supervision as well as function as a successful and participating team member
  • Requires occasional work outside of normal business hours and less than 5% travel
  • Reports to the Director of IT Operations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The ideal candidate will have experience administering Linux systems in test and high-availability production environments, including the following skills:
  • 1+ years experience of Linux system administration
  • Ability to self-learn using readily available literature
  • Excellent problem solving/root cause analysis skills
  • Must be US citizen with or eligible to obtain Federal Security Clearance
  • Understanding of Java-based applications and their operation in RHEL environment
  • Experience with enterprise data backup systems and data storage systems
  • Must be detail oriented and able to prioritize and work on multiple tasks at one time
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team setting of subject matter experts, vendors, subcontractors, and clients
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working in a production environment with an emphasis on minimized downtime and irregularities
  • Demonstrated understanding of VMware vSphere and vCenter
  • Demonstrated understanding of AWS and cloud-based virtualization
  • Experience administering httpd, tomcat, and WebLogic servers
  • Advanced knowledge of RHEL / CentOS
  • Experience with Windows system administration
  • Experience and/or knowledge of networking
  • Administration and implementation of MS SQL, Oracle, or any Relational DBMS
  • Experience working with Dell hardware and/or EMC SAN
  • UNIX/Linux certifications
Education: Requires Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience
