JOB SUMMARY:
Under supervision of the G.I.S Specialist, the G.I.S Intern's fundamental duty is the collect field data using global positioning system (GPS) in building and editing city maintained GIS databases, geodatabases, and library of AutoCAD drawing files. The G.I.S Intern will also complete field surveys use survey level and measuring equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Collect field data using global position system (GPS) and up loading data to desktop.
2. Update City water tie-downs, convert to .pdfs and .jpegs to insert into water feature geodatabase.
3. Perform simple level loop surveys using survey level.
4. Draw plan and profiles of surveys using paper and or AutoCAD program.
5. Insert and edit as built draws into Public Works archive server.
6. Some data entry into G.I.S databases and editing of features using ESRI software maybe required
7. Read written or follow oral instructions, report orally to supervisor.
8. Subject to extended time in the outdoors.
9. Works safely in close proximity to highway traffic.
10. Works indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather.
11. Exposure to dust, fumes, toxic waste, mechanical, electrical, and loud noises that are routinely encountered in field collecting, using proper safety precautions.
12. And other duties assigned by G.I.S Specialist.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma and be enrolled in an engineering or GIS program.
2. Valid Texas Driver's license, Class C

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Hears clearly when working around equipment and in traffic, using proper safety precautions; work safely in close proximity to highway traffic; communicates effectively orally with citizens and other city employees;
2. Lifts and carries with assistance up to 100 pounds, and pulls, pushes, and drags with assistance up to 200 pounds of tools, equipment and materials.
3. Climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, stoops, bends freely, walks and twists for extended periods of time while performing duties.
4. Sit or stand for extended periods of time while performing street and building maintenance
