I am getting ready to give my two weeks notice to my boss of nearly 6 years for my first "real" job. I work in the same city as he does, but work in a different location than him every day.

Is it acceptable to call him to let him know that I'm giving my two weeks (to get the clock ticking) but that I would like to set up a meeting with him to discuss?

I agree - a phone call to let him know your not a puss then follow up with an email so they can forward to their bosses.
