DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides general supervision of personnel and coordination in enforcing the understanding and technical specifications for underground utilities, driveways, sidewalks, street cut, right of way (ROW) encroachments and paving. Schedules, prepares and reviews work assignments for inspectors on a daily basis. Investigates inquiries concerning specifications interpretations and technical problems from contractors, design consultants, and the general public. Provides feedback and resolutions into the 311 system in response to complaints received from the general public. Prepares and reviews reports and various forms; provides guidance to Inspectors regarding closing of permits and acceptance of work. Assists Assistant Chief Inspector and Managing Engineer with special assignments. Conducts various inspections as required. Provides day to day support to the section in completing various tasks. Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.

This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier II Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires an Associate's degree in a field closely related to the area of inspection to be performed; or a high school diploma/GED and 18 months of journey level experience in the area of inspection to be performed.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of journey level experience in the area of inspection to be performed are required.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must have valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (A.P. 2-2).

Preference may be given to applicants who demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Office applications. **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
