Heard that Provost Fierke would like to decrease enrollment by 10%. I think she is wise to want to do that.

I have heard similar. I think the timing would be right, especially with RELLIS set to open soon.

Uhhh...questions:
1. Why any "decrease"?
2. Why an arbitrary 10%?
3. How to achieve this without arbitrarily preventing even greater numbers of outstanding young people becoming Aggies?

College enrollment nationally continues to drop, with many reasons cited as to why. Yet ours continues to soar. The uniqueness of Aggies and Aggieland are powerful draws. Yes, the development of RELLIS with an emphasis on skill set training rather than a "classic" college education should help slow applications to the main campus. But we also need educators at ALL levels to get back to reality: ALL kids are NOT college material and do NOT need to get college degrees. Many great lives and careers were built by pursuing trades skills as plumbers, electricians, masonry workers, pipe-fitters, draftsmen, mechanics, HVAC techs, etc. School counselors, school board elitists, professors and so-called education experts must get out of their ivory towers and embrace these very necessary, practical, profitable and meaningful career paths for youths; not just initiate arbitrary numerical reductions across the board.

1. We don't have enough classroom space for more students. We don't have enough faculty for more students.
2. Dunno
3. I agree. Tell the state to pay for more educators/space.

There were only 500 students admitted through Blinn Team for fall 2018 compared to 1,000 last year. All TEAM and Engineering Academy will attend classes at RELLIS rather than Blinn.

What is RELLIS?
It is a new campus built at 47 & 21 (Riverside Campus). It will be used for various things, including classes that are more technical in nature (welding, mechanics, etc). It will also be used as a "gateway" type campus for system school students. Lets say John applied to Texas A&M, didn't get accepted, but was offered admissions at Texas A&M Corpus Christi to pursue a degree in business. John goes to TAMUCC for 2 years, and is doing very well with his classes. Texas A&M now will offer John the opportunity to move to College Station, and take classes at the RELLIS campus to finish out his degree at TAMUCC. He will not be considered a TAMU student, and will not have any of the perks of being a TAMU student. John will still be a TAMUCC student, who is taking classes at the RELLIS campus in College Station. These classes will be taught by a variety of professors from TAMU and system schools. (at least that was the explanation given to us)

My understanding is that this allows for students in our system schools to take classes and potentially receive degrees they otherwise would not have been able to at their system school.

The campus will also house research and tech companies (as research drive is pretty much full), and will have a partnership with TEEX and TEES
